Wolverine 4x400 team claims state victory

The State 3A Track and Field Championships were held last weekend at Middleton High School.
Topping the day’s achievements was the girls 4x400, which captured the state title with a time of 4:08.39.
“They ran a real good time,” said Weiser Head Coach Dave Shirts. “Our school record was 4:06, which was set in 1990.”
The girls 4x400 team went undefeated on the season, according to Shirts who said he was pleased with the entire Wolverine track team’s overall performance this year.
“It was definitely a different season. Most of our meets were cold, windy, and rainy,” he said. “We did have a chance to run in a little bit better weather for the district and state meets.”
He added that his team’s youth should prove a benefit in 2023.
“We haven’t lost too many seniors,” Shirts said. “We had a lot of freshmen and juniors out this year, so we are looking forward to having most of them back. In fact, our 4x400 girls will all be back. They were all juniors or younger, so they will have a chance to defend that state title.”
