Dinners will be available for pickup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a first come first served basis. If anyone wants a meal delivered, within the city limits, reservations are needed by calling 208-907-2038 before Christmas Eve at 3 p.m. Reservations are only required for meals that are delivered.
Weiser High School junior Ashlyn Walker demonstrated her impressive writing and presentation skills as she placed first in the district competition for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Patriotic speech contest, and fourth at the state level.
Reed Thulander was tragically killed in a car accident on Jan. 1, 2021.
Thulander is remembered as a friend to all, and an irreplaceable positive influence in the Cambridge community. To honor Thulander the Cambridge FFA, along with the family of Reed Thulander, will establish an FFA memorial scholarship in Reed’s name.
“As current and past Cambridge students, friends and family of Reed continue to mourn his passing, this memorial scholarship will allow his memory to be a part of the Cambridge FFA for years to come,” FFA teacher Jodi Mink said.
Weiser resident Elizabeth Cada has lived and experienced a century’s worth of world changes and developments as she turns 102 years-old on Wednesday. Born Lillian Elizabeth Peterson Jan. 20, 1919, Cada moved to Weiser in 1988 and has lived comfortably in a special house near Memorial Park.
“I’m not living this long on purpose,” said Cada. “It just happened. I’m just surviving, is all.”
Weiser’s Ridley’s Family Marketplace ushered in a new store director Jan. 1 as previous director Shane McInroy moves to Wyoming to take on the district manager position for the east division of the company.
Mary Dimmitt, a Weiser native and long-time Ridley’s employee, accepted the opportunity with enthusiasm after working several years as the store location’s assistant manager.
“I just thought it was something I could do,” said Dimmitt. “I’m excited. Nervous, but excited.”
VEX Robotics at Weiser High School is designed differently than years past to accommodate COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. During usual years, competitions can involve large in-person group settings with schools, teams, and robots facing off against one another. However, this year’s first competition was instead operated as a virtual scrimmage where the robots only competed in skills, with only one robot on the field at a time collecting as many points as possible.
During the competition, robots are taken through two different phases with the first being driver control.
Weiser High School alumni from the class of 2018, recently released his first two original songs, “I love you” and “Someone New”. The two singles can be found on Spotify and YouTube music.
Burris has been singing for as long as he can remember. He participated in the Weiser choir programs since middle school and enjoyed the opportunity to participate in Chamber Choir and the musicals throughout high school.
Burris has continued participating in choir while studying communications at Northwest Nazarene University.
With family and friends present, four elected officials were sworn into Washington County office at 9 a.m. Monday morning at the county courthouse.
Nate Marvin was sworn in as Washington County Commissioner for District Two, serving another term in the position. Lyndon Haines was sworn in as County Commissioner for District One, replacing outgoing commissioner Lisa Collini in his first term in the position, Delton Walker was sworn into another term as the county’s prosecuting attorney and Matthew Thomas was sworn into another term as the county sheriff.
