Weiser School District updates the free lunch distribution

Weiser School District food services received a waiver from the USDA earlier this last fall to  move back to the “Summer Feeding Program.” This waiver allows the district to provide meals to any child that is 1-18 years of age.
In addition to school lunch and breakfast being free to students in  school, food distribution is also available to online students and to the community.
Parents whose students are enrolled in traditional school and wanted to be able to have access to meals on Wednesday without coming to the distribution site were able to sign up to have the students meals be brought home with the students on Tuesday.
While the food distribution last spring and through the summer was busy, there has been a decline in the participation from the community as the school year has progressed. Due to the low volume of meals being served at the community distribution site at the Middle School, the school district food service will be relocating the distribution line to inside the Weiser Middle School kitchen. The kitchen is located in the back of the building and signs will be posted.
Distribution times will also be shortened with meal pick-up available between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on days the school is in session or district online school is in session. Parents/guardians picking up meals will be required to sign for the child’s meals and will only be allowed to receive one free breakfast and one lunch per child per day.
The USDA waiver to continue the summer program has allowed the district to provide services to students who may not have been previously eligible for free and reduced lunches under the National School Lunch program guidelines. This has helped reduce the paperwork and administrative burden as families do not have to verify eligibility.
