Weiser Memorial Hospital 23rd annual free sports physicals

Weiser Memorial Hospital is proud to partner with Family Medical Center, Two Rivers Medical Clinic, Physician’s Primary Care, and the WMH Surgical Specialty Clinic to offer free sports physicals to all of Washington County’s seventh grade through 12th grade athletes.
 Now in the events’ 23rd year, Weiser Memorial Hospital staff will be coordinating the physicals at the Weiser High School Auxiliary Gymnasium, on Monday, July 19, from 5:30-8 p.m.
 This year there are six family practice providers participating in this free event, which enables them to see a large number of kids in a thorough but timely manner.  
 “Our goal is to offer the sports physicals at no cost and do it as conveniently as possible for the doctors, staff and families who attend,” said Kasey Davis, Community Health Education Coordinator at Weiser Memorial Hospital and organizer of the event.  
 In 2020 changes were made to the sports physical event, putting extra precautions in place due to COVID-19. A few of those changes will remain in place due to the positive feedback received from those who participated.  
 “One of the changes that we received great comments on was the designation of times, by the student’s last name, that eliminated the long waiting lines when the doors opened,” Davis said. “We generally see between 150 to 200 students each year, and last year seeing students at allocated times made everything flow so much easier.  
 Students will be seen by last name:  A-D, 5:30-6 p.m.; E-J, 6-6:30 p.m.; K-P, 6:30-7 p.m.; Q-T, 7-7:30 p.m.; and U-Z, 7:30-8 p.m.  
 All students will need a signed parental consent form.  
 If the parent is not able to accompany their athlete to the physical, they may pick up the forms prior to the physicals, fill them out, sign them, and send them with their athlete on July 19.   
 The sports examination form can be picked up at Weiser School District Office or Family Medical Center.
 Forms can also be downloaded from the Idaho High School Athletics website.   
 Weiser Memorial Hospital will turn in the signed sports physical form to the school where the student will be attending in the fall. This form is required to participate in school athletics.  
 “Providing free sports physicals for the athletes takes the time and efforts of our local doctors, P.A.s, and many volunteers from our hospital staff,” Davis added. “Everyone involved wants to show support for our youth and this is a great opportunity to give back to the community.”
