Weiser High School Golf teams place second at SRV meet

The Weiser High School golf team had their final Snake River Valley league tournament on Monday, May 3 at River Bend Golf Course in Wilder.
 It was a rare day this spring where the winds were fairly calm and the golfers were able to enjoy abundant sunshine.
 For the first time this season the Weiser Wolverine boys varsity team finished an SRV tournament in second place with a score of 180, two strokes ahead of the Fruitland Grizzlies who finished with a 182. The McCall boys came in with a team score of 172 earning them first place.
 For the Wolverines Carter Williams finished with a 35, Devyn Young had a 44, Rylee Willet a 50, Levi Estes 51, and Seth Caviness 56.
 Williams of Weiser ended the tournament tied with McCall’s Dathan Ova with a one under par of 35.
 Williams and Ova had a play off to determine the top medalist for the day. After replaying hole nine they were still even. They moved on to number one. Ova edged out Williams as he landed his pitch shot a bit closer to the hole and was able to finish one shot ahead of Williams.
 Both boys had an amazing round and the experience and pressure of a playoff is a huge benefit to both as they head into district and state tournaments.
 The Weiser girls finished the nine hole tournament in second place with a team score of 244. The McCall Vandals came in with a score of 205 and first place for the day.
 Weiser played the tournament with four golfers, Gabi Palmer led the Wolverines with a 55, Paige Johnson had a 56, Elle Svedin a 56 and Rachele Story finished with a 76.
 The JV teams played their nine hole district tournament on Monday, May 10 at Scotch Pines Golf Course.
 The varsity 18 hole district tournament was played on Tuesday, May 11 at River Bend Golf Course. No scores were available at the time of printing.   
 The top two SRV varsity teams for boys and girls will move on to compete at the Idaho State Golf Tournament that will take place at Highlands Golf Course in Post Falls on Monday, May 17 and Tuesday, May 18.
