Weiser High School carpentry students busy with projects

Weiser High School’s Carpentry Level 3 Class has been busy this fall doing projects throughout the community. Projects they build include garages, sheds, additions, and remodeling  for the residents of Weiser.
“We love being a blessing to our community. We’re not very fast, but the kids do a really nice job,” teacher Jon Lundberg said.
The cost for these projects is for the building materials only, not charging for any labor. This makes it a really good deal for both the customer and the class.
One of these projects includes a shed built into the homestands of the Weiser football field. It will store the athletic department’s equipment for the field.
“It was a challenge because the shed had to fit within the structure of the stands,” Lundberg said.
The class built and assembled the shed in a modular design inside their classroom shop. This design allowed them to build the shed inside, later take it apart, transport it, and then assemble it back together within the structure of the bleachers.
“It was a slight challenge putting on the steel siding and roof while the shed was inside the bleachers,” Lundberg said.
In addition to the shed, the class is also currently building a handicap ramp. This project is being built directly onto the house where the person lives. The class started this project just after Thanksgiving and hopes to finish it sometime in the near future.
In addition, at the start of the school year, the class was able to finish the inside of their new construction trailer they purchased about a year ago. This included building shelving to store fasteners, hardware, hand tools, and power tools, and an E-track system, which consists of metal brackets that will hold hoses, cords, toolbelts, and a whole host of various tools.
Lundberg’s Carpentry 2 class builds sheds of all types and sizes that people can purchase as well for a good price. These sheds can be transported to anywhere in the valley. Currently, they are building an 8-foot by 12-foot gardening shed that has no buyer as of yet.
If anyone is interested in having the carpentry class do a project for them and lives within a couple miles of the high school, wants a shed to be built, and/or wants to purchase the gardening shed, call Lundberg at the high school at 208-414-2595.
