Weiser Garden Club to host plant swap this Saturday

One of the most exciting aspects of gardening is the addition and collection of new plant types. This can be done gradually over the years as the garden continues to grow. However, the cost of purchasing new plants can quickly begin to add up.
Many gardeners in the area sometimes find they have an abundance of plants or seeds and instead of throwing them away the Weiser Garden Club has an opportunity to share your starts and maybe even a plant that just doesn’t fit in that well- planned out spot.
The plant swap will be held on Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Weiser Train Depot located at the south end of State Street.
Garden Club members will have items to swap and anyone who has an abundance of plant starts they would like to share are invited to come and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow gardeners.
Plant swaps are a way to share plants and acquire new ones to add new color and variety to the home landscaping.
The Weiser Garden Club composes of area gardeners who meet the last Wednesday of the month at the UI Extension Office at 116 W. Idaho St. to share gardening ideas. Many of the members are also master gardeners.
Master gardeners go through extensive training to learn important gardening skills. Through their class work, master gardeners can help local gardeners with their questions and solve garden problems by providing reliable, relevant, and research-based information.
The UI Extension is currently conducting once a month Growers classes on a Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Each meeting will cover a different aspect of gardening
Check with the UI Extension office to see when the next class will be held.
Enjoy the nice weather, dig up some plants and come down to the train depot on Saturday to adopt new plants to add to your landscape.
