Weiser City Fire honors Taylor for 23 plus years of service

Weiser City Fire and Rescue Chief Kerry Nyce presented Assistant Chief Bill Taylor with a plaque and a white helmet during an Aug. 9 city hall meeting, honoring him for his 23 years of service to the community.
“Assistant Chief Bill Taylor, in appreciation for 23-plus years of dedicated service for the Weiser City Fire and Rescue,” the plaque read.
Taylor, who serves as the City’s water department supervisor, was promoted to assistant chief in 2017 after rising in the ranks from firefighter. He joined the department in 1998 and retired on August 1, 2021.
“He worked his way up from firefighter to engineer and served as assistant chief for about six years,” Nyce said.
Weiser fire department rank begins at firefighter, lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, assistant chief, and chief.
“He’s always there for us,” Nyce said in a prior interview. “He’s a mentor of the volunteers that come on the squad.
As assistant fire chief, Taylor’s job included backing up Chief Nyce and serving in his absence. He also covered on-call when assigned and had some instructional oversight of firefighters during drills, as well as command duties at fire incidents. He was in charge of the lieutenants, captains, and the volunteers within the department.
Taylor cited a full schedule of responsibilities as part of the reason he decided to retire.
