Weiser blanks McCall-Donnelly 52-0

by Philip A. Janquart
The Weiser High School football team traveled to McCall Friday, Oct. 8, recording a lop-sided 52-0 victory over the Vandals, pushing the team’s overall record to 7-0 and 3-0 in conference play.
So far, the Wolverines have scored 316 points and allowed only 64. In comparison, Homedale, which Weiser faces on the road this week, has scored 335 points and given up 66. The Trojans are also 7-0, with a 3-0 conference record.
For what it’s worth, (and it may not be worth much) in MaxPreps.com Idaho multi-division rankings, Weiser is listed No. 10 behind several 5A schools such as Eagle, Mountain View and Highland. Homedale is ranked No. 12 behind Pocatello.
The Trojans beat Payette 48-0 last Friday.
The matchup between Weiser and Homedale is one of the big games to watch in Idaho this weekend and will most likely determine which school goes into district playoffs as the top ranked team; that is, providing both teams win their last game of the year.
Weiser will return home after three weeks on the road to face Parma at home Oct. 22. Homedale beat the winless Panthers 54-0 on Oct. 1. The Trojans travel to Fruitland Oct. 22 to face the Grizzlies who are 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Wolverines recorded a 40-18 come-from-behind victory over the Grizzlies Sept. 24.
Weiser statistics have been hard to come by this season, but here is what we know about Homedale:
Trojan junior quarterback Jaxon Dines can both throw and pass, with 853 yards on 96 attempts through the air and 512 yards on 57 carries for an average of 8.9 yards per carry through seven games. Dines has spread the love to several different receivers this season, junior Mason Strong leading the crew with 234 yards through five games. There are three other receivers with over 100 yards through seven games.
Senior Hayden Kincheloe (5-11, 215) leads the team in rushing with 1088 yards on 101 carries for an average of 10.7 yards per carry.
All that to say the Trojans will be tough, but the Wolverines have proven equally as strong in every aspect of the game, including our own passing/running quarterback Brett Spencer, solid receivers, the legs of one Willi Shirts, and a stiff-necked defense.
The game is in Homedale at 7 p.m. See you there.
