Three Wolverine girls place in the top six
The Weiser High School Cross Country team competed in their first official race of the season, the New Plymouth Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 22. For several of the team members this was their first high school race. Coach Scott Hale shared that this race was about getting a starting point for the season.
“I think our runners did pretty well, about what we expected. Now we have a benchmark and can set some goals to push ourselves forward,” Hale said.
In the women’s 5000 meter race, Kylee Quinton placed first with a time of 19:36.18. Kendall Rynearson finished in fourth with a time of 24:45.91. Claire Matthews finished in sixth place with a time of 22:21.43. These are great benchmark times for the season for all three girls. Unfortunately, it takes five runners to compete as a team, and with only three runners for this race, Weiser was not able to place as team.
For the men’s 5000 meter race, Weiser placed sixth as a team. Weiser’s top finisher, Judah Parsons was 14th with a time of 19:21.05, Josh Kelley finished in 18th place with a time of 19:39.82.
Coach Scott Hale shared that for both of these runners to get sub 20 minute times in their first 5k in high school is very impressive.
Levi Huston finished 27th with a time of 20:21:48. Grant Walker finished with a time of 23:24.56 and Aaron Despain finished with a time of 23:36.51.
Weiser will run next at the Weiser Invitational on Wednesday Aug. 31. This will be a large meet and the weather is predicted to be very hot so this will be a challenging run for all the racers.
