SRV play continues to be tight going into Districts

The Weiser High School golfers had the privilege of playing at the River Birch Golf Course in Star on Wednesday.
The weather was amazing, lots of sunshine and the wind was calm. The McCall Vandals hosted the tournament in the valley since their home course is not ready for play this early in the season.
Play continues to be tight between the top three SRV boys’ teams. The Weiser boys placed third with a score of 189.
Once again Carter Williams took the top medalist honors with a par score of 36. Devyn Young played well, finishing his round with a score of 45. Levi Estes came in with a 53, Rylee Willett with a 55, and Seth Caviness also a 55.
McCall finished in first place with a score of 170, their top golfer was two strokes behind Williams with a 38. Fruitland finished in second with a score of 183.
The WHS girls took second place with a team score of 218. The McCall Vandals finished in first place with 205.
Tea Uranga, Homedale High School, was the top medalist for the girl golfers.
The Lady Wolverine scores were 52 for both Jasi Yraguen and Gabi Palmer. Elle Svedin and Paige Johnson both came in with 57. Rachele Story had a 64.
On Friday the varsity Wolverine golfers hosted a non-league match play tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Weiser.
This is a fun style of tournament play where each player is matched up with a player from another team. Match play is played hole by hole and if you win the hole you receive one point. If your opponent wins, then they receive the point for the hole. If it is a tie, no points are awarded to either player. So at the end of the first nine holes the golfer that has won the most holes moves on to the winners bracket and will be matched up with another golfer who also bested their opponent.
The golfers who do not win in the first round will be matched up to play an additional round of nine holes. This is a great style of play for the players to focus on one hole at a time and work on forgetting the hole that is behind them.
Coach Jon Lundberg has developed a fun point system that he uses to determine the winner when there are four teams competing in match play. The boys’ and girls’ points are added together for each school, determining the overall team winner.
The 2021 match play tournament ended with Nampa Christian taking home first place, Middleton JV second, Cole Valley third, and Weiser fourth.
The Wolverines played their final league tournament on Monday, May 3 at River Bend Golf Course. Scores were not available at time of printing.
The SRV District tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11 at River Bend.
