Seven Weiser Boy Scouts attend camp in McCall

Weiser City Troop 350 of the Boy Scouts of America recently took seven members to Camp Morrison in McCall for a week of camp. The troop had a successful showing at camp earning several group and individual honors throughout the week.
Boys worked on merit badges including swimming, first aid, wilderness survival, environmental science, life saving, chess, music, leatherwork and other activities including rock climbing, rappelling, archery and shooting sports. Many of the Scouts also worked on rank advancement.
On the first day of  camp, Troop 350 won the Spirit Award. This honor was given to the troop based on uniform inspection. One boy in each troop volunteered to show the most complete Scout uniform.
Johnny Stuart had the most official Boy Scouts of America uniform articles including BSA boots and socks. In the tight competition with the other troops, each item counted and Stuart came out on top by one item.
Two of the troop’s Scouts, Dominic Sivero and Calvin Clapperton, were both nominated Order of the Arrow – an honor group for Scout members. The Order of the Arrow is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America composed of Scouts who best exemplify the Scout oath and law in their daily lives as elected by their peers.
All the boys showed a lot of initiative and worked hard throughout the week. One day there was a broken water supply pipe that fed fresh water to half of the camp sites, and Troop 350 volunteered to help fix it, which included digging a trench to find the broken pipe. They were asked to help because one of the head leaders said that of all the groups, Troop 350 would be the most willing to work hard to get the job done.
The troop also won the Soaring Eagle award, which was given to them for being the troop that showed the most Scout spirit, had the most professional demeanor during work and inspections, and the best kept clean and orderly campsite throughout the week.
Two of the troop leaders, Jake Clapperton and Kevin Bottomley, also won awards throughout the week. Bottomley earned the best dessert and best main dish during the Scoutmaster dutch oven cook off. Clapperton was chosen as one of two Scoutmasters to earn the best Scoutmaster of the week award.
Camp Morrison is on Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho, and with so many activities available, it is a great way for the Scouts to earn a lot of badges and learn important skills. This was a successful week for all that were able to attend.
