October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month across the U.S.
Locally, ROSE (Resource Offering Safety in Emergencies) Advocates will kick off the month of education and awareness by hosting the 21st annual benefit dinner on Monday, Oct. 1.
The benefit dinner, titled “Freedom from abuse, a bite at a time,” will be held at the Vendome Events Center and will begin with a no-host social hour at 6 p.m., followed by a sit down dinner at 7 p.m. The menu is prime rib of pork.
Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased by calling the ROSE Advocates office at 414-1231. There will also be raffles, door prizes and a silent auction throughout the night.
Even if you can’t attend the dinner, you can still help the cause by donating an item for the silent auction or a raffle prize, and cash donation are always welcome.
ROSE Advocates started as a secret organization helping women escape domestic violence situations in 1988. The organization helps more than 1,200 individuals a year.
Organizations like this and events such as the benefit dinner coming up help to bring the community together. Domestic violence is a part of every community and affects many people.
ROSE Advocates provides safety, education, and resources to help victims leave violence behind and build safe, empowered and productive lives for themselves and their children.
They also help to raise awareness in the communities they serve about types of abuse that are less well known, such as elder abuse and teen dating violence, according to the organization.
