A reminder that the scammers are still at it

Reminder time again. I had some dear friends who were scammed this past week.  

 Thankfully, their loss was smaller than it could have been if they hadn’t caught on quickly but it is still a loss. Scammers are coming up with more and more ways to get your money.  Seniors in particular are targets.  

 This scam was the grandparents scam.  If you don’t have caller ID, you might consider it along with an answering system.  

 Don’t answer unknown callers.  They will leave a message if they really need to talk to you.  

 Government agencies and most businesses will not call and ask for money to be sent or ask for your personal information. If they do, hang up and contact the business directly. Never give account numbers, Social Security numbers or personal information out over the phone or send to an unknown party.

 If you get a call you are not sure about, hang up and contact a family member or friend you trust to talk over the situation and request.  Have a buddy to call.  Don’t allow callers to bully you or infer you only have a limited time to meet their demands. Red flags!  Protect each other and share your experiences.

 City departments will continue on winterizing plants. In addition, the wastewater crew will be starting to clean out the storm drains in preparation for winter weather. They will start on problem areas and will then clean out on all the streets going north. The RV dump on East Park and Highway 95 will be closed after Thanksgiving.

 The Weiser City Fire Department along with the Weiser Area Rural Fire are providing backup coverage for the cities of Caldwell and Middleton over the next few weeks.  

 Caldwell and Middleton along with other valley departments have sent about 20 trucks and 100 of their full-time crew to help with the fires in California.  

 Keep all these folks in your prayers as they reach out to help in a time of need and tragedy.  Keep the residents in your prayers as well.

 The street crew is busy getting ready for the holiday activities by placing the decorations on the streets and parks over the next couple of weeks. 

 In addition, they have a couple of days of alley clean-up left and will stay on the leaf pick up as weather and equipment allows.  Those pesky leaves keep falling with the help of our fall winds so be patient as we get around to your locations. 

 This is the weekend of the arts and crafts fair at the Vendome sponsored by the Four Rivers Art Guild and library. It will take place Friday and Saturday.  Check with our local media for times.

 The Weiser Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Festival of Trees is just two weeks away so get ready for the Christmas season to swing into full gear. For tickets contact the hospital or a member of the foundation because they go quickly.
