Ontario hands Lady Wolverines back-to-back losses

Weiser’s varsity softball team squeezed in a makeup game in Ontario on Thursday, March 31, a day ahead of meeting the Tigers on the Weiser High School field on Friday, with both outings ending in Ontario’s favor.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead on Thursday behind a two-run homer in their half of the second inning by pitcher A. Navarette. Center fielder Pearson scored two on a home run in the bottom of the fourth, and Naverette hit another home run in the fifth, scoring three.
Weiser had a five-run inning in the fifth, with Paisley Noyer, Annabelle Mattson, and Mecarte Olsen all knocking in runs.
Whitney Cordes doubled on a line drive in the top of the seventh, scoring Taylor Bushong and Olsen, and cutting into Ontario’s lead with a final score of 14-10.
The Wolverines tallied 14 hits in the game, with Tobie Noyer and Paisley Noyer each going 3-for-4 at the plate. Ivy Morris and Olsen each went 2-for-4, and Olsen led with 3 RBIs.
At home on Friday, the Wolverines were stymied by Ontario’s defense through the first four innings. The Tigers were leading 11-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, when the Wolverines bats heated up. Bushong started off with a double on a line drive to center. Olsen singled, scoring Bushong’s courtesy runner, J. Stromberg.
Morris reached first on an error, advancing Olsen to second. Cordes doubled on a line drive to left field, scoring both Morris and Olsen. T. Noyer singled on a ground ball to short, with Cordes held up at second. After a pair of strikeouts, P. Noyer doubled on a hard ground ball to left, scoring both Cordes and T. Noyer.
The bases loaded up after Hannah Swank was hit by the pitch, and Bushong was walked. Olsen singled with a grounder to left, scored two runners and advanced Stromberg to third. Morris stepped up and singled to short, scoring Stromberg. The score was narrowed to 11-8.
Cordes was walked, filling up the bases one more time. T. Noyer tripled on the next pitch, hitting a hard ground ball to left, scoring Olsen, Morris and Cordes, and tying the game at 11-11.
The Tigers made some hay of their own in the sixth, notching an additional six runs in the top half.
Abi Wilkins hit a nice single in the first at bat of the second half, and advanced to third on an error. P. Noyer grounded out to second, but Wilkins scored ahead of a throw.
It was all defense from there through the seventh inning, leaving Ontario with the 17-12 win.
Olsen led the Wolverines at the plate, going 3-for-4. She, Noyer and Noyer led in RBIs with three apiece.
