One election will be held for the Weiser Valley Highway Distric

Throughout Washington County, a total of six tax district trustee positions opened for candidate to place notice of interest. In the Midvale free library district, one trustee position to be filled for a six-year term has received one candidate, Kathy Gladhart. In the Cambridge free library district, two trustee positions to be filled for six-year terms each have received two candidates, Alene Smith and Judy Walters. Neither library district will currently hold a contested race.
In the Weiser Valley Highway District, one commissioner position for a four-year term for subdistrict two was available. The position has received the tax district’s only contested race, with Jeffrey Boles and David Jenkins as two candidates. In the Weiser Valley Hospital District, two trustee positions for six-year terms each received no candidates.
Interested parties still have the opportunity to place their information for candidacy as a write-in candidate until 5 p.m. on Friday. To become a write-in candidate, visit the tax district clerk at the district office of interest and inquire for the proper paperwork. If the paperwork is not available, interested parties are encouraged to then visit the county clerk’s office for more information. Candidates must file a declaration of intent with the tax district, be a registered voter and must notarize paperwork before returning. After information is properly filled out and given, return to the tax district clerk. Do so in a timely manner, well before 5 p.m. on Friday so as the district clerk may return the information to the county clerk by said time.
Election day for tax districts is scheduled for May 18, and currently only has one contested position.
