Know a great teacher, outstanding citizen, community organization or first responder that deserves recognition?
The Weiser Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations until Oct. 1 for outstanding individuals and organizations in the community. The top nominees in each category will be placed on a ballot and voted on by the public.
The winners will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Community Awards banquet, one of the most anticipated social nights of the year and an event that attracts a who’s who of locals.
This year the banquet will be held on Oct. 21 at the Vendome Events Center and will be dedicated to honoring outstanding business, citizen, educator and organization for the great things they do in the community, chamber officials said.
There will be 34 tables to decorate and it’s a great way to advertise your business, chamber officials said. All the tables will be decorated by local businesses and organizations with lots of fun stuff that will go home with the winners at the end of the evening.
The theme this year is Vacations around the World. Some vacations are already taken so contact the chamber and reserve your vacation idea and table. New this year will be a people’s choice award for the favorite decorated table.
There are seven categories to nominate deserving citizens and organizations. They include student organization of the year, business of the year, outstanding citizen award, educator of the year award, community organization of the year, lifetime achievement award and emergency personnel award.
There are some rules to follow when nominating someone to make it fair for all.
•If an individual, business or organization has won an award within the previous five years, they are ineligible for a nomination.
•Photocopied ballots will not be accepted.
All nominations from the community will be accepted by the board of directors. Including a statement as to why that individual, business or organization deserves the award is strongly encouraged.
The top three nominations in each category will be on the ballot for voting by the community. Ballots will be available immediately after the nomination period closes. Local residents will have a week or so to vote and return the ballots to the chamber. It is not necessary to be a member of the chamber to vote.
Nominations may be turned in to the chamber office in the Vendome or emailed to info@weiserchamber.com by Oct. 1.
Chamber officials said they encourage members of the community to make their voice heard.
