New business in downtown Weiser to feature local artisans

Owner of Casey Girl Designs Casey Hoskins brought her upholstery business to Weiser four years ago. Hoskins recently made the decision to move her workspace of her upholstery business back to her home but didn’t want to give up her storefront in downtown Weiser. She decided the perfect solution was to create a retail space not only for small inventory of ready made Casey Girl designs but also a vendor space. The new maker’s collective: The Creative Home will be open to the public Feb. 4.
Casey Girl Designs was already the local vendor space for Alma Naturals essential oil products, and Hoskin’s mother makes and sells children’s clothes in the shop, so it was already a home to multiple vendors. Adding to that concept seemed like the right solution.
Along with a space for a small craft classroom, The Creative Home will offer consumers the chance to shop from ten different vendors for a variety of home decor and gifts.
Hoskins shared that she is really excited for the opportunity to help offer more to the community and support for other creative people.
Hoskins has shared her space with other businesses in the past. Stephanie Ragan, owner of Idaho Custom Designs started her business renting space in Casey Girl Designs store front until her business was large enough to branch out into a store front of her own, so Hoskins understands the importance of businesses supporting each other as they start out and grow.
“I want to create a space where creative people can feel at home and we can help you make your creative home together,” Hoskins said.
Within two weeks of putting the word out that she would have vendor spaces available, Hoskins had filled her eight vendor spots and already had a waiting list.
Shoppers will be able to find everything from upcycled furniture, craftsman furniture, wine barrel dog beds, cribbage boards, signs and gift tags, scarfs and soap and even fiber art by local artist Linda McLaughlin.
The shop will be open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hoskins hopes to expand hours by late spring.
Hoskins emphasized that she also owes a huge debt of gratitude to her employee Morgan Stapleton. Stapleton and her creative input have been essential throughout this transition and her skills will be an essential part of The Creative Home business.
Hoskins sees the future of The Creative Home as a place that draws people to downtown. With other great businesses downtown like Weiser Classic Candy, The Metropole, Pampered Pooch and Peoples Furniture all on the same street, they can draw business downtown and support each other along with the other local businesses.
Hoskins said that Weiser embraced her family when she came and supported her as she built her business. Now, she is hopeful that The Creative Home can be a way she can give back, not only to other aspiring businesses and creative craftsmen, but also so that she and the other craftsmen and businesses can work to give back to the community that supports them.
“That’s the beauty of a small town,” Hoskins said.
