Memorial Scholarship Set Up To Honor Cambridge Student

Reed Thulander was tragically killed in a car accident on Jan. 1, 2021.
Thulander is remembered as a friend to all, and an irreplaceable positive influence in the Cambridge community. To honor Thulander the Cambridge FFA, along with the family of Reed Thulander, will establish an FFA memorial scholarship in Reed’s name.
“As current and past Cambridge students, friends and family of Reed continue to mourn his passing, this memorial scholarship will allow his memory to be a part of the Cambridge FFA for years to come,” FFA teacher Jodi Mink said.
Thulander moved to Cambridge in the sixth grade. In high school, Thulander was active in the Cambridge FFA, football, and basketball. He was loved by all the students at Cambridge and always had the ability to make others feel welcome.  He loved a good laugh and his smile was contagious.
As a member of the Cambridge FFA Chapter for all four years of high school, Thulander participated in the Meats, Forestry and Ag Mechanics Career Development events. He received his Idaho State FFA degree in 2018 and was the Cambridge FFA official delegate at the State Leadership Conference in 2019.
Reed was always the first to volunteer for community service, FFA projects or even concessions. He enjoyed being around fellow FFA members and took pride in making sure that he tried to meet the most people he could on FFA trips.  He loved the outdoors and excelled in his natural resources classes.
Thulander graduated in 2019 with his 12 classmates. They were extremely close and he attended the University of Idaho to pursue a degree in Fire Science from the College of Natural Resources. Six of his classmates attended the University of Idaho at this same time and they had “family” dinners in the dining hall almost every night together.
The family, along with many of the current Cambridge FFA officer team, decided a memorial scholarship in Thulander’s name was the best way to honor his love for his FFA chapter.
Many members of the community knew Thulander well from Cambridge FFA Alumni activities and events and wanted to give money towards a scholarship in his honor. A little brainstorming by this group led to the creation of the “Reed Thulander FFA Memorial Scholarship.”
The goal of the scholarship is to recognize a well rounded Cambridge FFA member who has made a difference in someone else’s life. The family is still determining the exact qualifications, but the application will be ready by March 1.  The committee hopes to have $10,000 in the scholarship fund that would provide two FFA members each year with $500.  The exact scholarship details will be finalized once donations are collected. The scholarships will be awarded at the Cambridge FFA Annual Banquet in mid-April.
Contributions can be made to the Cambridge FFA at P.O. Box 39, Cambridge, Idaho 83610.  Additional questions can be addressed to Jodie Mink at 208-566-4501 or jmink@cambridge432.org.
