Talented members of the Four County Art Guild are the featured artists for the month of July and their artwork is currently on display at Zions Bank in Weiser.
Usually, the guild chooses an individual artist to feature for two months, but the organization opened it up for all members to participate and show a representative work of art.
The artwork currently on display represents a wide variety of styles and media. There are drawings, paintings, collage and textiles. The scope of work of current guild members is broad and diverse. Most, but not all, of the artworks on display are for sale
A work by Sandy Michael creatively used polished rocks and green-colored glass to create a palm tree and island scene with individuals. The piece is called “Sam’s family in Hawaii” and was created in 2019. Michael does a lot of what she calls functional art, making art out of everyday objects.
Guild member Kathryn Wert, of Cambridge, used colored pencils on her artwork, “Romeo,” a portrait of a favorite pet. Another Cambridge artist, Nina Hawkins, used oils to create a landscape of a familiar canyon scene.
The art guild is growing in numbers and includes members from New Meadows to Weiser to Ontario, Ore., and beyond. There are about 30 members, including some incredibly talented women who have won state and national awards and accolades for their art.
The art guild’s stated mission is to support the visual arts in Idaho and Oregon in Washington, Payette, Adams and Malheur counties. Through a number of programs, the guild works to promote art and get youth and the community involved in creating and appreciating art.
The guild is a big supporter of arts in local schools. The guild awards ribbons and cash to the best student artwork during the school year. The guild also gives schools money to help purchase art supplies for students.
The organization is always looking for artists to showcase their works, and you don’t have to be a member of the guild to become a featured artist. The guild also sponsors the self-guided art tour located in a variety of local businesses, where the art works of members are on display.
The guild has an ongoing art walking tour. See all the new artwork available for sale and grab lunch, a beverage or do some shopping at one of the participating businesses: Weiser Classic Candy, Ruszoni’s Pizzeria, Marbella Pottery Painting, Mosaics and Wine, Legends on Main Pub N Grill and Second Chance. Art is also on display at the Weiser Signal American, Zions Bank, and the Weiser Public Library!
There is no art guild meeting in July. The next meeting date is Thursday, August 1 at 12 p.m. in the Weiser Public Library meeting room. Artists participating in the Art Walking Tour will meet at 10 a.m. on Aug. 1 at Second Chance Consignment.
