Lady Wolverines shut out league rival McCall 15-0

The Lady Wolverines were busy on the diamond last week with five games on the schedule, which was kicked off with their first league pairing of the regular season against the McCall-Donnelly Vandals.
Senior, Whitney Cordes, took to the circle for the Wolverines, allowing one hit in the first inning, but the Lady Wolverine defense and the strong pitching of Cordes yielded two strikeouts and a flyout, leaving the Vandal runner unable to score.
Despite an out for the first Wolverine batter, the Lady Wolverines wasted no time in getting their bats running and capitalizing on every opportunity granted by the Vandals.  Cordes was given a free base on balls and Hannah Swank came in to run for her as a courtesy.  Junior, Tobie Noyer, ripped a shot to left field for a double and scored Swank.  Macy Maloney was hit by a pitch and Paisley Noyer walked, filling the bases with Wolverines, but none were able to score with the next batter grounding out to end the inning leading 1-0.
Cordes served up back-to-back strikeouts, followed by a fly out to Abi Wilkins in center field.
With a slim lead, the Lady Wolverines turned up the heat on the Vandals in the bottom of the second inning, batting entirely through the lineup, plus three more batters.  The Lady Wolverines recorded six hits from Morris, T. Noyer, Taylor Bushong, P. Noyer, Wilkins and H. Swank, and eight runs in the inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
Cordes continued to thrive in the circle, adding two more strikeouts to her tally in the top of the third. One Vandal managed to make it to base on a single to left field, but the quick arm of catcher, T. Noyer on the throw down to first baseman, Mecarte Olsen, caught the runner off base to end the Vandal at-bat.
The Vandal pitcher struggled in the bottom of the third, placing three runners on base on balls.  With Rylee Roberts running on behalf of T. Noyer after she walked, and Maloney receiving an additional free base, P. Noyer hit a hard ground ball double to left field, scoring both Roberts and Maloney before she was left stranded on third base with the Lady Wolverines recording their third out of the inning.
Leading 11-0, Cordes began the fourth inning in the circle with a strikeout, but a Wolverine error in right field and a single placed Vandals in scoring position, but a final strikeout kept the Vandals scoreless and a Cordes shutout fully intact.
A walk for H. Swank, singles for Morris and T. Noyer, walks for Maloney and Bushong and a double by P. Noyer, yielded three more Wolverine runs, adding to their 15-0 lead.
One final opportunity for a comeback seemed to be possible when the first Vandal batter hit a single in the infield.  However, Cordes halted the Vandal chances with a pair of strikeouts and a ground out from Maloney to Olsen.
Whitney Cordes pitched an outstanding game, allowing only four hits and serving up 10 strikeouts in 18 batters. Paisley Noyer was big on the stat leaderboard with 3 hits, 1 run and 5 RBI, while sister, Tobie Noyer had 3 hits, 1 run, and 2 RBI.  Ivy Morris added 2 hits, 1 run, and 1 RBI, and Taylor Bushong contributed 1 hit, 1 run, and 2 RBI, followed by Grace Swank with 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 RBI.  Abi Wilkins rounded out the hitting with 1 hit and 1 run.  Macy Maloney and Hannah Swank came across the plate three times apiece for the Lady Wolverines and Rilee Roberts scored two runs.
