Lady Wolverines drop first two league games

The Lady Wolverines hit the road for their first league pairing last week, traveling to the home of the Homedale Trojans.
The Lady Wolverines jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead behind the serving of Grace Soulen. The Wolverines kept the momentum and never let off the gas throughout the set, taking the set handily 25-12.
The Trojans came out in the second set a different team, pulling out the win 27-25, and followed up repeating their success in the third set by winning 25-23.
The two close losses played a factor in the confidence of the Wolverines, and the Trojans were able to capitalize on their positive momentum and won the fourth set 25-16 and the match 3-1.
Weiser vs. Fruitland
The Lady Wolverines hosted league rivals the Fruitland Grizzlies last week, and despite moments of greatness, the Wolverines struggled with serving consistency and ball handling errors, which resulted in a sweep by the Lady Grizzlies 25-12, 25-12 and 25-15.
The Wolverines started out the first set strong with a pair of tip kills by Sara Lundberg, kills by both LynnZ Rasmussen and Grace Soulen, and a sneaky set to the backcourt by Macy Beuscher, which kept the set close and within striking distance at 6-8.
Unfortunately, the Lady Wolverines began to struggle from behind the service line, and serve receive errors just added to their woes, allowing the Grizzlies to pull away, capitalizing on every Wolverine error.
The Wolverines were never able to regroup during the set, and succumbed to a 25-12 loss of the first set.
A pair of kills early in the second set by Lundberg to tie the set 3-3 looked like the momentum shift that the Weiser ladies needed to shake off the first set and get back in the match, but it was a short-lived surge, and the error demons creeped back in on the Lady Wolverines, enabling the Grizzlies to go on a 5-0 scoring run.
A great save by Hailey Pearson, followed by a Reagan Doty kill pulled the Wolverines within five points at 5-10, but the Wolverines simply could not establish an offensive presence in the match due to communication breakdowns, service problems and net violations.  The Grizzlies took the second set 25-12.
Peering down the barrel of a sweep scenario, the Wolverines had to come together and eliminate the issues plaguing them offensively.
Once again, the Wolverines started out the set with positive vigor, enhanced by a trio of kills by Lundberg, a kill by Pearson and a couple of sneaky dump sets on the second contact to a hole in the Grizzlies coverage by Beuscher for kills.
The Wolverines took their first lead in the match 7-6, but the momentum could not be maintained, and the Grizzlies again began to chip away at the lead and ultimately the Wolverines confidence.
Both setters for Weiser, Ciana Fuller and Macy Beuscher, located a chink in the Grizzlies armor with sneaky sets on hit two to a hole in the center of the court, and were able to make this trick work on three more instances, but it was not enough to get the Wolverines back into the match, dropping the third set 25-15 and the match 0-3.
