Lady Elks help FFA members make trip to Washington, D.C.

Weiser High School juniors and FFA members Faith Mink, HaRlie Mackay and Libbie Rynearson made a presentation at the June 12 Ladies of the Elks meeting to request financial support for their recent trip to Washington, D.C.
Each received $200 from the Ladies of the Elks to help pay for their trip. They traveled to Washington D.C., from June 25-30 to attend the FFA’s Washington Leadership Conference.
During the five-day event, the FFA members attended multiple sessions each day.
Leadership skills and personal growth sessions at the conference focused on how to become effective leaders by learning their purpose, how to value people, how to take action and how to serve others.
They returned from the conference with the knowledge and confidence to act in ways that help their school, community and their country.
In addition to time spent in growing themselves and their leadership skills, the students got to experience much of what Washington, D.C. has to offer.
They had the opportunity to visit Arlington Cemetery, take a night tour of the monuments, experience the Holocaust Museum, tour the Capitol building and the White House and meet with Idaho’s Congressional team.
Taking this trip of a lifetime takes fundraising. Faith, Libbie and HaRlie have worked to secure funding for their trip in various ways throughout the Weiser community.
The girls sold concessions at a middle school track meet, sold Easter flower arrangements with the help of Weiser FFA horticulture classes, held a successful yard sale and spoke to many business owners and leaders.
