Judy’s officially changes name to ‘The Ol’ 95 Burger House’

After 26 years, Judy’s Weiser In, established in 1996 by Judy and Dennis Sterling, has changed names.
On Saturday, Nov. 12, new owners Ben Vertner and Mauro Cavazos, stood high atop the building as they unfurled a sign above the restaurant’s entry, designating it the “The Ol’ 95 Burger House.”
The new moniker is in reference to the restaurant’s location off E. Sixth St., which was once part of Highway 95.
The name change comes six months after the Sterlings sold the business and is part of a rebranding effort that includes the addition of a breakfast menu.
The Ol’ 95 Burger House owners have decided to focus on breakfast and lunch.
So far, the evolution has been well received, according to co-owner Amy Vertner.
“We are happy to announce that we’ve changed the name to The Ol’ 95 Burger House and we are just going to focus on doing our breakfast and lunch. We are really excited about this new change,” Amy told the Weiser Signal American. “We have been doing well. Bringing breakfast back to Weiser allows people to sit down in a comfortable setting as they get ready for their day. We are really happy to bring that back.”
There were few places people could go for dine-in breakfast before the restaurant began serving it full-time a couple months ago.
In years past, there was the Homestead Café, previously located on State Street, and a few other locales that have since shut down.
The Farmers Café, the only other restaurant to offer breakfast, is located off Highway 95 and East Commercial Street, next door to the Farmers Supply Co-op fueling station and convenience store.
The Ol’ 95 Burger House’s new hours are Tuesday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The schedule went into effect on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
“We want to thank our customers for their continued support,” Amy said. “We are excited to start this new beginning and really appreciate the support as always.”
She added that The Ol’ 95 Burger House will be available for customers’ private celebrations.
“We are going to have dinners happening for special occasions,” she said. “We can cater or host holiday parties for your company or family gatherings here at the restaurant.”
Judy and Dennis Sterling sold the restaurant to Amy, Ben, and Mauro in early April 2022. They are co-owners of CHS Construction. The small group has since added a fresh coat of paint to the building.
Amy said in April that they tentatively plan to apply for a liquor license, but that it would be a process that could take months.
Judy said that selling the restaurant was on her mind for some time, but wanted to find the right buyers.
“It was the plan for a long while,” she said in late March. “We are really happy about it. They’ve (new owners) been coming in the restaurant for years, so it’s kind of nice. They know everyone and are going to keep the same things and add stuff as they go and make it their own.”
Judy moved to Garden Valley from Lodi, Calif. when she was 23. She moved to Weiser in 1996, opening Judy’s Weiser In not long after arriving.
