Couple creates event venue with plenty of country charm

Troy and Randi Davies have always loved throwing a party.
They discovered that the home that they purchased in 1996 was actually the perfect space for celebrating friends and family.
Two years ago, when Troy took over farming from his dad, they decided to take a leap and officially turn their property into an event venue, creating Sunnyside Farm and Events.
In 2017 Randi had photographed 11 weddings in the area, all at backyard/farm venues just like she had envisioned their space could be. The vision has become a beautiful reality.
After the soft opening in 2018, the couple hosted 13 events. They have 13 events  planned for 2019 and four events already booked for 2020.
The couple started with an outdoor only venue, but have increased their value by recently adding the showstopping barn, giving their clientele that indoor option while still keeping true to the inviting country charm upon which the Davies have built the venue’s reputation.
The barn is a large building with a story that exemplifies how the Davies have done business. It started out as a hay shed and housed several pieces of equipment. After deciding they could cut down on equipment and make the space to expand the venue, a local friend suggested that they keep the existing roof and close it in.
Using local companies, JR Excavation, J2 Concrete, Mike Fager and Huggins Construction, as well as purchasing what supplies they could locally, they redesigned the entire space.
Making the space truly unique and extra special, Davies’ son, Cortlyn,  designed and built by hand the doors and hardware for the sliding barn doors. He used old pieces of equipment he found lying around the farm to create his new design. Drilling over 50 holes by hand, Cortlyn worked long hours, often until after midnight, to create the perfect hanging hardware.
Davies shared that, although most of their reservations actually come from out of town, the venue has brought additional business to the community as the guests use local catering companies, floral companies and buy liquor and gas locally.
The guests are always pleased with the trip, many remarking on the nice quiet drive, the welcoming community, and just the escape to the private farm destination for their event.
The Davies don’t have any other staff, so they work hard to be the best hosts they can and have a venue that provides the value their customers need with no hidden charges or added expenses. The venue can host 300 people and that includes not just the space, but all the tables, chairs, linens and most of the decorations they might want.
“We love to entertain. All of our customers have always been so kind, making it an absolute joy to host a party every weekend,” Davies said.
The Davies have also donated the use of their property for special church social events, local families in need, and other charities.
The couple is looking forward to hosting the Surviving Hearts benefit dinner again in September and they are also currently planning to bring a “farm to table” event to the Weiser area working with local organic farmers and local chefs to serve local food with proceeds benefiting local food banks.
“The venue has been a blessing to us, so we want to continue to share that blessing with others,” Davies said.
Davies shared that in a way, opening the venue was a leap of faith, but they decided to take the leap. It  has continued to grow their circle of friends and community as they have been blessed to fulfill a need for the entire region by sharing their backyard, their barn, and, more importantly, their hospitality.
