County commissioners, sheriff and prosecuting attorney sworn in

With family and friends present, four elected officials were sworn into Washington County office at 9 a.m. Monday morning at the county courthouse.
 Nate Marvin was sworn in as Washington County Commissioner for District Two, serving another term in the position. Lyndon Haines was sworn in as County Commissioner for District One, replacing outgoing commissioner Lisa Collini in his first term in the position, Delton Walker was sworn into another term as the county’s prosecuting attorney and Matthew Thomas was sworn into another term as the county sheriff.
 Marvin ran unchallenged for the District Two County Commissioner position during the June primary election and again during the November general election. Walker and Thomas also ran unchallenged during the primary election however Thomas faced a write-in candidate for Washington County Sheriff during the general election, winning against challenger Aaron Walker, receiving a total of 4,641 votes. Haines ran as the challenger candidate to incumbent Collini, winning the primary election by 65.4 percent of the votes in representing District One. All ran as declared Republican party candidates during the elections.
 After taking seats as official commissioners along with District Three Commissioner Kirk Chandler, Marvin was nominated by Haines and voted two-yes, one-abstain as the new chairman of the Board of County Commissioners.
 Committees throughout the county were distributed, with each commissioner distributing committees by interest and specialty. Committees Marvin has taken on include the orchard-review board, area agency on aging, and Western Idaho Community Action Program. Committees Haines has taken on include Snake River Economic Development Alliance, Washington County Weed Board and Washington County Rodent Board, Southwest District Health. Committees Chandler has taken on include the district magistrate commission as well as several other committees between the three commissioners.
 Former commissioner Collini’s final meeting was Jan. 4. After reviewing agenda items with elected officials, individuals such as Thomas and Walker expressed their pleasure working with her and thanked Collini for her service as a commissioner.
 “I also appreciate Lisa’s time of service and the efforts that go into this,” said Walker. “I understand the difficulty of trying to be a county commissioner. There’s so many things to cover, it’s an extremely difficult position…you’ve all done as good as you can do during your time that you’ve served. Thank you, Lisa.”
