This week is one of the most event-filled of the holiday season in Weiser and Washington County.
The activities begin with the Festival of Trees, a community favorite and a major fundraiser for the Weiser Memorial Hospital Foundation. The theme for the 33rd annual event is “Winter Wonderland.”
This year, 21 trees have been decorated by community members. Half of the trees are real and came from Oregon and the other 10 are artificial trees.
The mother and daughter decorating team of Gail Schnider and Dianne Davis-Martin were putting the final touches on their Christmas tree on Monday afternoon. The Vendome was busy as teams of decorators worked their creative magic on their trees.
Davis-Martin said this is the second year they have decorated a tree for the Festival of Trees fundraiser.
She said it was important to support the hospital, which has helped their family over the years, and it was a way to give back.
The decorated Christmas trees will be auctioned to the highest bidders during the Gala Evening on Wednesday. Tickets cost $50 for the catered dinner, followed by the tree auction.
The public is invited to check out the decorated trees and the winter wonderland at the Vendome on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., local entertainment is planned with the sounds of the season.
The Vendome will be open again on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Friday evening, the Weiser Chamber of Commerce nightlight parade starts at 6 p.m.
The parade ends at the historic train depot on State Street. The crowd will help Santa light the city tree and fireworks will follow. Following the parade, Santa will visit the Festival of Trees at 7:30 p.m.
The Upper Country Singers will present their annual Christmas concert in Cambridge on Sunday under the direction of Debbie Warren.
Nearly 40 singers from Weiser, Midvale, Cambridge, Indian Valley, Mesa and Council have joined their talents to present the concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds exhibit hall in Cambridge.
“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem”, and “A Baby Changes Everything” are just a few of the song selections that express this year’s theme of “Do You See What I See?”
The Upper Country Kids, led by Laurel Sherman, will also entertain with music and drama.  Nicole DeVries, Davy Nudo, the McNallys will perform, along with other special guests.
The Upper Country Singers and friends decorate the hall each year and also provide refreshments at intermission.
Admission to the concert is free. Donations are encouraged and appreciated. Donations help the Singers to present a quality event year to year.
