10th annual Angel Wings Run/Walk slated for Oct. 9

by Nicole Miller
Angel Wings Network, Inc. will host its 10th annual Fun Run/Walk to raise funds to help local cancer patients.
This year Angel Wings is hosting their 5k (1 mile) Walk/Run at Weiser City Park Saturday, Oct. 9, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In addition to the in person event, you can also join them virtually. Virtual participants can email their 2-minute video clips participating in their own walk/run Oct. 2 through Oct. 9. These videos will be shared on Angel Wings social media pages.
With a $25 donation per person for registration, participants can walk, jog, run, and be active and have fun. Register yourself and/or your team on the Angel Wings website, in person at 773 W. Main Street Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or the morning of the event.
The Run/Walk is a fun annual community event and also an important fundraiser for Angel Wings Network.
Since 2016, the event has raised $45,000. In 2019, the organization hit a record $14,000. In 2020 the event was virtual, but still raised $8,000.
The race begins at City Park with participants making their way to Weiser Middle School and around the track, up around the football field, and back to City Park.
Organizers said they hope to see over 150 participants at the event this year in addition to the virtual participants. The virtual event from last year was fairly successful, so they decided to keep the virtual component this year as an option.
This event is important to not only raise money, but to show support for those still battling cancer, as well as celebrating survivors. The event is family and pet friendly. Participants are encouraged to gather up family and friends to create a team dress-up, coordinate team t-shirts or outfits, and wear costumes. Prizes will be awarded and the event will be fun for the whole family.
The event helps raise money to help local cancer patients with gas cards, prayer blankets and general funds for operations such as office supplies, software, etc.
This year instead of a silent auction, participants can make a donation and get tickets for a chance to win the bundle of prizes, including baskets valued between $150 to $350 each and will contain lots of good items for Christmas gifts.
Angel Wings has been unable to hold many of their major fundraisers as live events due to COVID-19. While they have been able to hold some fundraising events virtually with an online silent auction and the virtual Run/Walk last year, the in-person events are usually much more successful.
Organizer Mabel Dobbs shared that while COVID has caused hardship for everyone, the demand and need to help those with cancer in our community continues to grow.
