Wolverine full-court too much for the Pirates

Weiser handed Payette a 56 to 31 point loss with a 30 point lead in the third
On Thursday, Dec. 14, Weiser hosted the Payette Pirates for Weiser’s second conference game of the season. Weiser had lost their first league game in McCall on Dec. 5, leaving them with a SRV record of 0-1, while Payette had no record in the conference yet.
 The Wolverines decisively handed the Pirates their first loss in SRV play, winning by 25 points; 56 to 31.

Varsity wrestlers travel north; JV and girls compete in Oregon

Weiser split up this past weekend with a few of the varsity group heading to North Idaho College to attend the Tri-State tournament.  Twenty-nine teams competed traveling from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana.  Weiser competed with just six Wolverine wrestlers who saw some great matches and faced some great challenges in the ring.  
 Wrestlers were able to compete in at least three matches, with some seeing seven total.  

BSU grad student unveils exhibit showcasing Weiser WWII veterans

Editor’s note: The following is part II of a series about BSU grad student Kent Kiser who has been researching the 526th Infantry Battalion, a top-secret group of specially trained servicemen during World War II. Most of them came from Idaho and some from Weiser. Part I was appeared in the Dec. 6, 2023 issue of the Signal American.

Need a year-end tax deduction?

Dear Editor,
 If you’re looking for a year-end tax deduction, I have one for you. 
 If you read my letter to the editor in the Nov. 22 edition of the Weiser Signal American,  the Weiser Senior Center needs its mortgage paid off. So, our challenge for donations from Weiser and Washington County, and those wanting to help out has been $1,000, BUT it can be any amount, more or less.

Beware: Idaho is a target

Dear Editor,  
 If you haven’t already, you’ll soon hear about, Rank Choice Voting (RCV) and the Article V Convention of States (Con-Con). 
 RCV is endorsed by “Establishment Elites” in Boise. It’s an extremely confusing way of voting where you “rank” candidates in order of preference. It’s designed to take constitutional conservative candidates out and get socialist candidates in office. BAD idea. DO NOT support it.

City street crew is working hard at getting fall leaves picked up

Ho Ho Ho! I Ho Ho Hope your Christmas season is full of joy and cheer this year! 
 With that being said, this week, I am going to jump right into the City business first.
 The City has received the final word on the $2,000,000 grant to repair E. Commercial Street. I would like to say a great big thank you to Mike Campbell and Keller and Associates, the City’s engineering partner, for writing the grant and moving it through the Idaho Transportation Department. 

‘Christ Mass’ service at the Lutheran Church

 The Lutheran Church at 402 E. Court St. will have a one time occasion, a “Christ Mass” on Monday, Dec. 25 at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome, especially young people.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Senior Center

 The Weiser Activity Center for Seniors will be serving lunch daily this week, with the Center closed on Christmas, while the COPs will be serving Christmas dinner at the Center. The next breakfast will be Saturday, Jan. 6, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

STEM and art at the library

 The Weiser Public Library is having activity sessions on STEM and art on Fridays through the school year. Friday, Jan. 26, the STEM activities will be held at 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. for 3-5 year olds and 11 a.m. to noon for 6 year olds and up. The art activities will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for 6 year olds and up. The sessions are free but registration is required as space is limited to 20 spots in each section. Registration is at the library or call 208-549-1243.
