Norma Jacks

 Norma Jacks, 90, died Saturday morning, Nov. 11, 2023, at Weiser Care of Cascadia in Weiser, Idaho.
 Norma was the daughter of Frederick and Marha Sapp and was born July 8, 1933, in Juliaette, Idaho. 
 Norma’s father was a minister and she and her three siblings moved several times as her father served and pastored churches in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. 
 In August 1945, Norma was baptized in the Sandy River outside of Troutdale, Ore., during their church summer camp. She recalled this as a very moving and important event for her.

Start practicing your free throw shots for the Elk’s Hoop Shoot

 The Weiser Elks Lodge annual hoop shoot competition will be held Jan. 6 at Weiser Middle School. Boys and girls, ages 8-13 as of April 1, 2024, are invited to compete free of charge. Doors open and registration starts at noon. Competition starts at 1 p.m. Winner of each age group will move to the next round of the competition. Blood Drive Dec. 6

 Weiser’s quarterly blood drive will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vendome. Please call Alex Chavarria at (208) 602-7138 or Dorothy Evans at (208) 549-5589 for an appointment. Appointments are preferred but every attempt will be made to accommodate drop-ins. Rapid Pass is strongly encouraged. Blood supplies are low, so your blood could save a life.

Basketball team prepares for a successful season

Weiser High School girls basketball is starting up again with hopes of having  another great season. The team and their coach Laraine Harrison, are hoping to build on their success of last season. 
 Last season, the Wolverines had a 30-7 record overall with a 7-3 conference record. The  season ended with the Wolverines winning  the consolation bracket of the State Tournament where they beat their league rival Parma, whom they had lost to previously during the season.

Weiser ends season with 25-7 loss to Sugar-Salem

The Wolverines’ 2023 championship bid ended with a 25-7 loss to Sugar-Salem in a semi-final matchup played out at Holt Arena in Pocatello on Friday.
 For the second year in a row, Weiser was awarded the 3A State third-place trophy.
 The Wolverine offense had a difficult time against a stiff Digger defense that limited Weiser to 98 yards of total offense compared to Sugar-Salem’s 323 yards. The Diggers now face Teton in the championship game, the Trojans falling to the Timberwolves by a score of 49-42 in Friday’s semi-final in Homedale.
