Ruth Evelyn Hunter

Ruth Evelyn Rowlett Hunter, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home near Weiser, Idaho, on March 19, 2020.
She was born in Cody, Wyoming to John and Ellen Rowlett on April 28, 1923.
Ruth had two brothers and four sisters and was very much a child of the Depression and WWII.
Her family moved from Wyoming to California and then to western Oregon where she spent most of her life.
Ruth attended the University of Oregon after high school.  It was at a community dance near Junction City, Ore., that she met a soldier recently returned from the war and not long after married Charles Gilbert Hunter on Aug. 25, 1946.
Ruth and Gilbert (Gib) raised their family of seven daughters and one son near Cottage Grove, Ore., where many friendships and memories were made in the community and church.
In 1989 Gilbert and Ruth served a mission in Norway for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Then in 1995 they moved to Weiser, Idaho to be near family members who helped care for them over the next 25 years.
 Gilbert passed away in 2001.
Ruth is survived by her younger sister, Anna Stewart, Ariz., as well as her eight children: Wanda Hunter, Schenectady New York; Lou Hansen (David), Weiser, Idaho; Venessa Pitman (Bob), Middleton, Idaho; Charles Hunter Jr. (Nancy), St. Peters, Missouri; Ellen Knight (David), Lovelock,  Nev.; Mary Clark (Wayne), Cottage Grove, Ore.; Barbara Elton (Dennis), Kuna, Idaho; and Christie Stentzel (Parke), Murray, Utah.
Ruth and Gilbert’s posterity include 42 grandchildren, 136 great-grandchildren and other family members.
Her love of nature, gardening, music, dancing, reading, tole-painting, quilting, church service, family history and especially the Lord, leaves a wonderful lasting legacy for Ruth’s family and friends.
Although for now we miss her wit, loving teasing and concern for the well-being of all of her family, she will forever be our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Private graveside services will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, Idaho on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
