Jan K. Wilkerson

Jan K. Wilkerson, 71, long-time resident of Cambridge, Idaho passed away in her sleep on Feb. 15, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
Jan was preceded in death by her older sister Fay Ritz of Oregon and older brother Bill Nicholson of Washington.
On New Year’s Day, 1952, Jan was the first baby born at McMinnville Hospital (Ore.) to Alfred and Helen Voelker. They lived in Rose Lodge, Ore., with her family and attended Rose Lodge School.
Jan was an outgoing person who loved to make friends wherever she went. She wasn’t afraid to strike up a conversation, offer advice, or lend a sympathetic ear to her family or friends.
Jan loved to dance in her younger years, enjoying square dancing at the elementary gym or a two-step when the opportunity arose. Jan also enjoyed traveling at every opportunity and could often be found taking a weekend trip in her fifth wheel or even roadtripping down the California coast. Jan enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people.
Jan drove the mail route in Cambridge and Indian Valley for many years, but her true passion was history. She enjoyed learning about her ancestors through genealogy and helped many friends and extended family find out about their own family history.
She volunteered many hours to the Cambridge Museum and was a tireless advocate of preserving and maintaining the history of the Upper Country for future generations.
Jan is remembered in love by her husband, Russell Wilkerson and previous spouses, Wendell Horn and Cliff Sturtevant.
Jan leaves behind her sister Alene (Midge) Smith and spouse, Donald Smith, as well as her brother Ernie Voelker. She was a devoted mother and mother-in-law to Donna and Tony Simpson, Diane and Dennis Garner, and Sarah and Brent Fulk.
Jan is survived by Gordon and Chuck Wilkerson and their spouses and families whom she loved very much. Jan also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Karri, Tiffany, Anthony, Ashley, Granger and Garison as well as six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Indian Valley Community Hall, 803 Indian Valley Road, Indian Valley, Idaho on Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m. Services will be inside and outside, please dress warmly for the outdoor portion of the service.
