Doris May Gardner

Doris May Gardner was born on Oct. 28, 1932 in Nevada, Missouri. She passed away on Jan. 16, 2021 at the home of her brother in Weiser, Idaho.
In January of 1946, the family boarded a troop train that brought them west, first settling on a ranch on the Oregon Flat and then to Weiser where Doris called home for many years.
Doris’ life was devoted to the caring of others. After the early death of their father, Doris helped her Mom raise her younger siblings and continued, lovingly caring for her Mom until she passed away in 2007.
After graduating from Ontario High School in 1951, Doris began a nearly 50 year career in nursing. This career began at the hospital and Dr. McGrath’s office in Weiser and continued at St. Luke’s in Boise where she retired in the late 1990s.
Doris often said she thought she was signing up for a month of Red Cross training and ended up 50 years in nursing. Doris made her home in Boise for many years before returning to Weiser.
Doris enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful doilies and collars that family members have to treasure. Doris also enjoyed traveling and visiting with family. Nieces and nephews have many happy memories of summers spent at Doris and Grandma’s house.
Thank you for everything and all the good memories, Doris, you will be greatly missed.
Doris is survived by her brother, Bennie and sister Jean (Don) as well as nieces, Tracey, Lori and Becky and nephews, Brian, Christopher and Nicholas. Great-nieces and nephews, Emily, Duncan, Chris, Tara, Maggie, Kaley, Claire, Amanda and Aidan.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ruby Gardner and sister Mary Elizabeth Morgan.
Doris will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery.
