Weiser wrestling hosted the 36th annual Weiser Invitational this past weekend.  Historically, this competition is one of the stiffest in the area with great wrestling teams coming from all over the state and beyond.
It takes a small village of people to put it all together and this year was no different. A thank you goes out to all of the volunteers, community members, coaches, coaches wives, parents, avid fans, officials, and pretty much everyone else who helped! It couldn’t have been done without you. Even the Weiser wrestling team had to do more than just wrestle.  They were in charge of set up and tear down in time for the girls varsity basketball team to have a game Saturday night and then they had to come back in and set everything up for the youth wrestling tournament the next day!
Weiser finished in second place for the two day competition and had some great personal finishes as well. Thirteen wrestlers finished in the top 6 of each weight class. In sixth place was Matthew Monterrosa at 190 pounds, Ryder Perkins at 144, Wyatt Black at 113, and Sean Elliot at 98 pounds.
In fifth place, Kaiden Peck at 285 took home the honors as did Telsyn Hawker at 215.
Fourth place was earned by Rick Erickson at 150 and Charlie Nevarez at 132. In third place was Stockton Young at 157 and Cole Ingle took second place for Weiser at 132.
Weiser brought home three first place tomahawks after some great wrestling matches. Kash Cobb wrestled well yet again at 175 and earned his team 29 points and a first place trophy. Kash wrestled four matches and won three by fall and one by major decision.
Luke Sarich had a great tournament as well at 165 pounds. Luke wrestled three matches after receiving a bye in the opening round. He scored 25 team points and won his quarterfinal in just 49 seconds by fall. Luke won his next two matches by major decisions and decision to win his first place trophy.
Last but not least of our first place finishers was Ty Cobb at 144 who gave his team 26.5 points. Ty wrestled four matches winning the first by fall, the second by major decision, the third by technical fall and in the finals he went toe to toe with a Jerome wrestler and won in a great match by sudden victory. Ty was also awarded the Fight of the Finals distinction because of his finals battle.
Weiser will take a break this week in preparation for Districts which will be held in Fruitland on Saturday, Feb. 22.
