Wolverines outscore opponents 150-58

The Lady Wolverines were on fire last week in both of their two matches, outscoring their opponents 150-58 in six sets.
Weiser vs. Payette
The Lady Wolverines began their week in a road match against the Payette Pirates. The visit was brief, as the Lady Wolverines swept the struggling Pirates in straight sets 25-9, 25-8, and 25-6. During the first set, the Wilkins sisters, Abi and Madi, had a serving exhibition, combining to serve for 19 of the Wolverines’ 25-points.
The second set was a similar scenario. However, Abi Wilkins was the serving star of the squad, with 12 of the Wolverine points.
The set began a bit slow for the Wolverines, but after one full rotation of the court, the Weiser ladies led the Pirates 14-8 when Wilkins stepped back into the serving position. Abi scored 11 consecutive points to take the set 25-8.
For the third and final set, it was all Wolverines. The Pirates made it through one complete rotation around the court, and the Wolverines led 13-6. Abi Wilkins stepped behind the service line again and served out the next 12-points, taking the set 25-6 and the match 3-0.
Abi Wilkins was the leader of the match in service points with 30, and she also had 12 aces. The hitting duo of Jasi Yraguen and Paisley Noyer added 5 kills apiece, while Noyer had 3 blocks.
Weiser vs. Homedale
Following their very strong showing against the Payette Pirates, the Lady Wolverines hosted the visiting Homedale Trojans later in the week. Their good mojo continued into the home match and the Wolverines took the match in straight sets 25-14, 25-7, and 25-14.
The first set against the Trojans began a little bumpy for the Lady Wolverines. Despite an ace service by Abi Wilkins to start the set, the Wolverines fell behind 3-6 until Mattie Shirts slammed down a kill from the middle. Following the kill, the Wolverines began to chip away at the deficit, aided by two aces from Bailey Coleman. The Wolverines caught up 9-9, and then began to surge ahead of the Trojans.
Madi Wilkins stepped behind the service line, scoring 10 consecutive points. Wilkins recorded two service aces, while Shirts added 2 kills and collaborated on three stuff blocks with Paisley Noyer. With a commanding 22-11 lead, the Wolverines closed out the set with a pair of kills from A. Wilkins and Shirts and the win 25-14.
The Wolverines kept their momentum rolling into the second set, jumping to an early 9-4 lead over the Trojans with Abi Wilkins and Madi Wilkins serving up 4 service points apiece.
A Trojan service error placed Paisley Noyer behind the service line. Shirts kept Noyer serving for 7-points, adding 2 kills and 2 solo stuff blocks to her tally. With an 18-5 lead, Bailey Coleman began serving for the Wolverines. Two aces and a kill from A. Wilkins later, the Wolverines outscored the Trojans 7-2 to take the set 25-7.
The third set began a bit more competitive, trading points and side-outs to the 7-7 mark, but a kill from A. Wilkins began a surge for the Wolverines full of kills and scrappy, heads-up play. Leading 11-9, A. Wilkins began serving. Three kills from Yraguen and a kill from Noyer kept Wilkins scoring and expanding the lead to 18-9. Despite a few errors, the Wolverines maintained their momentum and finished out the third set with a 25-14 win.
Mattie Shirts and Jasi Yraguen had 8 kills apiece, while Shirts tacked on 6 blocks to her credit. Abi Wilkins had a big night with 16 digs, 5 kills, and 19 service points. Paisley Noyer had 6 kills and 3 blocks.
The win brings the Wolverines’ Snake River Valley Conference (SRV) record to 5-1.
