Weiser played their last regular season game on the road in Homedale on Saturday, Feb. 11. It was senior night for the Trojans and the stands were packed. Weiser brings a pretty impressive crowd as well.
The night began with the freshman squad winning 44-32. The JV did not fare as well dropping their game 48-33. The varsity fell behind early, clawed their way closer in the third quarter only to come up short losing 74-45.
Starters for this game were Jack Shirts, Kolin Cook, Tommy Johnson, Brayden Walker and Malakye Scott.
Homedale scored first but Shirts found Johnson for the bucket to match that score. Homedale hit a three. Johnson inbound the ball under his own basket to Scott on the baseline for the matching THREE. Scott found Johnson for another basket inside the key, 8-7 Homedale.
Homedale had some deadly three point shooters as they went on a tear. Weiser called time out with 1:22 to go in the first but it was too late. At the end of one, Homedale 22, Weiser 7.
Weiser made more shots count in the second quarter. Michael Youngberg to Walker for a THREE. Walker to Carter Jensen for a hoop. Scott drained another THREE. Homedale 30, Weiser 15.
Scott stole the ball and finished the coast to coast route with a kiss off the glass. Shirts drove the ball for two. Scott sank another THREE. At the half, Homedale 36, Weiser 22.
Homedale had the ball to start the third quarter. However, Weiser scored first when Scott passed to Cook on the baseline for the THREE. The next time down the court, Cook hit the THREE from the top of the key. Shirts to Walker under the basket for two more. This is as close as Weiser would come in scoring with Homedale leading 36-30.
Halfway through the frame, Walker hit a jumper in the key. When a Homedale player was T’d up, Scott sank both free throws. Walker to Youngberg for two. At the end of the third quarter, Homedale 48, Weiser 36.
Weiser was perhaps playing too hard in the fourth quarter trying to close the gap. The turnovers were killing the Wolverines. That and the big guy, 6’3” center for Homedale was scoring at will. Weiser managed nine points in this quarter. Shirts to Scott for another baseline THREE. Shirts banked home a shot. Youngberg and Jensen made both their free throws. Homedale would win 74-45.
Scoring: Scott 16, Walker 7, Cook 6, Johnson, Shirts, Youngberg and Jensen 4 each.
