Wolverine track and field competes over spring break

Several members of Weiser High School’s track and field team spent the end of spring break competing in Orem, Utah at the Utah Valley University Invitational on Saturday, March 29.

 In competition, the Wolverines posted a number of personal and season records in a collection of events, as well as a variety of finishes in the top six.

 Weiser’s only girl competing at the invitational, Claire Matthews ran four events, setting a personal record of 30.63 in the 200 meter and earning a 17th-place finish.

 In her long-distance specialties, Matthews placed third in the 800 meter race in a time of 2:37.02; third in the 1600-meter race with a season record time of 5:51.54; and fifth in the 3200-meter race in 13:05.91.

Men’s competition

 In the 100 meter sprint, Jackson Laird finished in 8th in a three-way split, in a season record time of 11.68. Garrett Walker finished in 15th with a personal record of 12.04; Reif Blanchard in 19th, with a personal record of 12.30; Shayd Crossley in 20th, with a personal record of 12.31; and Zayn Crossley in 22nd, with a personal record of 12.69.

 Laird, S. Crossley, and G. Walker, finished 11th, 17th, and 18th in the 200 meter race, Laird with a season record of 24.00, Crossley with another PR of 24.50, and Walker with a PR of 24.54.

 Walker then set a season record of 54.48 in the 400-meter race, finishing in sixth place.

 Z. Crossley  finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, in a SR time of 16.80.

 The Blanchard brothers finished the 300m hurdles in fifth and sixth places, with Thayn recording a 45.92 time, and Reif setting a PR of 46.07.

 The Wolverine 4x400 relay team earned fourth in the finals in a time of 3:52.23.

 In field events, Karsten Walker competed in shot put and discus, earning 10th in the shot put with 39’5.75”; and 6th in discus with a 129’ throw.

 S. Crossley was fourth in the high jump, recording 5’8”; and the long jump, G. Walker set a PR of 18’2.75” for sixth place, and Z Crossley placed 12th with a 14’1.5” final.
