Weiser track teams take second at Melba Ice Breaker

The Weiser High School track teams competed at the Melba Ice Breaker on Friday, March 15. It was a large opening meet for Weiser with 12 schools competing. Weiser had several athletes place well and both the men’s and women’s teams placed second overall.
In the men’s division, Weiser scored 99.5, behind Nampa Christian’s total of 114. Cole Valley Christian and Melba tied for third with a score of 76. Payette came in fifth with a score of 69.
Weiser had several athletes place near the top for several events. Starting with the sprint distances: In the 100m, Toren Walker placed third with a time of 11.58. Brock Spencer placed fifth with a time of 11.74. Xander Gray and Jackson Laird tied for eighth with a time of 11.9. In the 200m, Jayden Walker finished second with a time of 23.42. Toren Walker finished fourth with a time of 23.74. Jackson Laird finished sixth with a time of 24.34. Xander Gray finished 10th with a time of 25.04.
In the mid-distance races: Garrett Walker finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 56.45 and Ryan Youngberg finished 10th with a time of 58.48. In the 800m race, Josh Kelley was Weiser’s only top 10 finisher with a time of 2:12.58.
For the long distance races, Judah Parsons placed eighth in the 1600 with a time of 4:57.96 and Blake Quinton placed ninth with a time of 4:58.12. Blake Quinton placed third in the 3200 with a time of 10:46 followed by Judah Parsons in fourth with a time of 10:58.
In the 110m hurdles, Zayn Crossley placed eighth with a time of 19.98. In the 300m hurdles, Josh Mizar placed seventh with a time of 48.37.
Weiser’s relay teams all competed well. The 4x100m team: Brock Spencer, Jackson Laird, Jayden Walker, and Xander Gray, placed first with a time of 45:13. The 4x200 team: Thayn Blanchard, Riggin Roberts, Brayden Nordgren, and Gabriel McLaughlin placed fifth with a time of 1:44.68. The 4x400 team: Jayden Walker, Jackson Laird, Garrett Walker and Toren Walker placed second with a time of 3:36.89.
Several runners also did well in field events. In shot put, Karsten Walker placed sixth with a throw of 39’ 1.5”. Karston Walker was also Weiser’s top discus thrower with a distance of 93’ 4”. Garrett Walker placed fourth in high jump with a jump of 5’6”. Josh Mizar tied for seventh with a jump of 5’6”. In the pole vault, Ben Hansen placed fourth with a height of 10 feet. In long jump, Xander Gray placed first with a distance of 20’ 9”. Brock Spencer placed seventh with a time of 18’ 2.25. In the triple jump, Jayden Walker placed sixth with a distance of 37’10”, Josh Mizar placed ninth with a distance of 35’ 3”, and Ben Hansen placed 10th with a distance of 34’ 10”.
In the womens’ competition, Nampa Christian placed first with a score of 154. Weiser placed second with a score of 144.5. Liberty Charter placed third with a score of 92. Homedale placed fourth with a score of 64.
In the sprint distances: Madi Wilkins placed sixth in the 100m with a time of 13:55. Bethany Walker placed ninth with a time of 13.85. Kailee Lerew placed first in the 200m with a time of 27.40. Madi Wilkins placed fifth with a time of 29.15. Evie Dolton placed seventh with a time of 29.19. Rylie Roberts placed ninth with a time of 29.55.
In the mid-distance races, Kailee Lerew placed first in the 400m with a time of 1:02.19. Rylee Roberts placed sixth with a time of 1:08.04. Claire Matthews placed first in the 800m with a time of 2:33.20. Corianna Parsons placed eighth with a time of 2:55.23.
In the distance races, Claire Matthews also placed first in the 3200 with a time of 12:21, followed by Kendall Rynearson in second with a time of 12:44. Claire Matthews also placed first in the 1600.
Weiser’s relay teams performed well overall. The 4x100m relay team: Madi Wilkins, Abi Wilkins, Kamryn Doty, and Bethany Walker placed third with a time of 53.62. The 4x200 team: Madi Wilkins, Kamryn Doty, Abi Wilkins, and Kailee Lerew placed first with a time of 1:52.72. The 4x400 team (Kamryn Doty, Abi Wilkins, Kendall Rynearson, and Kailee Lerew) also placed first with a time of 4:29.20
Weiser also had athletes perform well in the field events. Teagan Hawker placed second in shot put with a distance of 30’ 9”. Paytyn Rollins placed fifth with a distance of 28’11”. Hailey Eames placed eighth with a distance of 27’ 9.5”. Emma Kaprielian placed 10th with a distance of 27’8”. Anna Rodriguez placed third in discus with a throw of 87’4”. Teagan Hawker placed seventh with a throw of 77’9”. In high jump, Kamryn Doty placed fourth with a height of 4’6”. In the triple jump, Bethany Walker placed second with a distance of 32’10”.
The weather was ideal for this first meet, and it was a great way to start the season with both Weiser teams placing in the top two. The team will look to improve their times and distances at their next meet, the Weiser Invite on Friday, March 22 in Payette.
