Weiser sweeps Parma in conference play

The Lady Wolverines traveled to the home of the Fruitland Grizzlies for their second pairing of the season last week. The first match-up went to 5-sets but came out in favor of the Grizzlies. Therefore, the Lady Wolverines had big plans to even the score. Unfortunately, the Lady Wolverines struggled from the first serve, and succumb to a 3-set sweep by the Grizzlies 14-25, 20-25, and 9-25.
Despite staying close in the first set to the 9-9 mark, the Lady Wolverines lost momentum and the Grizzlies pulled ahead with a 16-5 scoring run to take the first set 25-14.
The Lady Wolverines battled back in the second set to keep the set close. Working hard to the 19-19 mark and plans to even the match 1-1 was within their grasp. However, it was not to be, and the Grizzlies held the Wolverines to a mere 1-point for the remainder of the set, and took the second set 25-20.
The Lady Wolverines simply could not get anything positive going in the third set and found themselves trailing 3-7 after only one rotation. Unfortunately, things did not get any better for the Lady Wolverines, and the remaining points that they scored were few.
The Grizzlies took the final set 25-9 and the match 3-0.
Stats were slim for the Lady Wolverines with Mattie Shirts recording five kills and Bailey Coleman with nine digs.
Parma
Following a disappointing loss to the Grizzlies, the Lady Wolverines regrouped to face the visiting Parma Panthers the following evening. With no time to dwell on the previous match, the Lady Wolverines rallied themselves to sweep the Panthers 3-0 on their home court 25-18, 25-19 and 25-13.
The first set against the Wolverines and the Panthers was back and forth, trading points to the 12-12 mark, but the Wolverines pulled ahead 13-12 and never looked back. Leading 18-15, sophomore, Paisley Noyer, stepped back to serve and went on a 6-point scoring run to get the Lady Wolverines to set point, 24-16. The Wolverines finished the set 25-18.
The Lady Wolverines started out slow in the second set, and soon found themselves trailing 6-9. Working their way back into the set, the Lady Wolverines caught up with the Panthers at 11-11 and remained point-for-point until the 16-16 mark. Leading 17-16, Noyer stepped back to serve again, starting the Wolverines on a 7-3 scoring run to take the set 25-19.
The Lady Wolverines were energized by the impending sweep and soon found themselves with a 9-4 lead over the Panthers. When Danica Lockett came in to serve, she took the Wolverines from 10-8 to a commanding 15-8. Abi Wilkins followed Lockett with similar success and gave the Wolverines a 20-9 lead by the time she stopped serving. The Panthers managed 4 more points in the set, but the deficit was too large and Noyer finished the set for the Wolverines 25-13 and the set 3-0.
Jasi Yraguen led the Wolverines with nine kills, while Mattie Shirts was close behind with six kills. Bailey Coleman was strong defensively with 19 digs, while Danica Lockett had 14 assists and six service aces. Paisley Noyer came up big at the net with four stuff blocks.
