With one out, bases loaded, and a 3-2 count on Weiser’s Danica Lockett,  a Nampa Christian wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth gave Weiser’s Madi Janicek the opening for the Wolverines to score a run, and a 7-6 non-conference victory.
The Wolverines held a 3-1 lead at the end of the first inning, with both Trista Buescher and Taylor Mordhost scoring on walks, and Bennett Torres sliding in on a wild pitch.
The Trojans came back in the top of the second to take a 4-3 lead off of a double and two singles. It was three up and three down in both halves of the third inning, and by the end of the fourth Weiser tied the game at 5 on a single by Jessica Waite, and then they moved into a short-lived 6-5 lead before the last out when Janicek stole home.
The Trojans’ Myranda VanVliet doubled on a pop fly in the seventh, scoring a run and sending the game into extra innings.
Both teams went three up, three down in the eighth.
Still tied going into the bottom of the ninth,Janicek was placed on second. Jessica Waite singled on a ground ball to first, while Janicek advanced to third. A walk brought Lockett up to bat. She fouled off the first two pitches, and after three ball calls, the wild pitch put Janicek across the plate to end the game.
Weiser had nine hits for seven runs, with Waite, Buescher, Mordhorst and Campbell recording one RBI apiece.
Aryssa Aburto began the game for the Wolverine, giving up seven hits and five runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking five. Janicek took over in relief, giving up five hits and one run over five innings, while striking out five and walking none.
Weiser 4, Parma 7
After a scoreless five innings, the Wolverines tied the game at 1-1 with Parma’s Lady Panthers in the top of the sixth on Wednesday, March 20.
Parma’s first two batters in the bottom half got on base off of singles, but Weiser shortstop Lockett put out the lead runner who was advancing to third.
A pair of walks, three singles, and a double moved the Panthers into a 7-1 lead before third base Natalya Hoobery snagged a ground ball, sending it to Lockett for an out at second. Janicek followed up with a strikeout to end the inning.
Weiser had another half to make up ground, and managed to put another three runs on the board. Aburto doubled on the first at-bat, with Lockett hitting a single right behind her. Hoobery ground out to first, scoring Aburto in the process and advancing Lockett to second. Janicek ground out to the pitcher, moving Lockett to third base.
Cantrell singled with a hard ground ball to center field, scoring Lockett, narrowing the gap to 7-3. Waite drew a walk, and Buescher sent a line drive double to left field, putting Cantrell across the plate, chalking Weiser up to four runs.
The inning ended in the next at-bat, with Torres grounding out to third, giving Parma the 7-4 win.
