Upcoming events include PBS screening and lectures

The Weiser Public Library will be getting a new roof next month, city council members approving a $32,919 bid from Premier Roofing Solutions to do the work.

The council also approved an optional 20-year labor and material warranty for an added $2,000, bringing the total price to $34,919.
“This is one we budgeted for next [fiscal] year,” said Public Works Supervisor Mike Campbell at a Sept. 9 regular city council meeting. “We have to start Oct. 1 because of weather changes and temperatures, I want to get this approved … so we can start.”
The work, he said, is for a full restoration.
“The only option that needs to be considered is to add the $2,000 for the 20-year labor and material warranty,” Campbell noted. “The only thing that it does not cover is if the existing coating underneath would delaminate from where it’s at. [They] went up there and did a full test … I don’t think the existing roof is going to come off.”
Considering a major leak that occurred last January, librarian Timbra Long said she will be relieved once the new roof is in place.
“We had a lovely waterfall right in front of our patron computer,” she said. “That was after it snowed and then it melted really, really quick and then we got rain. We came in and it was just flooding between the checkout desk and the patron checkout computer. It was a mess.
“The guy came quickly and did what he could to repair it until [the city] could get to it this spring or summer. Books and water don’t mix … so, we are very much looking forward to having a new roof.”
 Long said nothing was damaged.
“Thankfully it came straight down to the floor and we just moved everything out of the way,” she said. “I ran home and got a whole bunch of beach towels and got it dried up.”
Upcoming library activities:
Long would like to remind the community that the library has its STEM and art classes every other Friday.
Lorrie Richins is booked to speak Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. as part of the library’s fall lecture series.
Richins is a Personal and Family Empowerment Coach, Energy Feedback Facilitator, Body Language Advisor and a Certified Emotion Code and NLP Practitioner. She will be speaking about her new book “Fortified – 10 Effective Strategies to Fortify Our Families.”
PBS Story Time is coming Sept. 26.
“That’s always fun because PBS comes and they bring videos and lots of fun activities for the kids for story time on Thursdays,” Long noted.
In November, PBS will return with a screening of Ken Burns’ video on Leonardo da Vinci.
“PBS is bringing it to Weiser to do a 30-minute screening of the video, either Nov. 12 or 14.”
