Weiser cheer squad brings home the hardware from state

The Lady Wolverines started to work on this year’s choreography this last summer. The team cheers at football and basketball games and practices their three routines for competition. Their season started with the Treasure Valley Cheer Invitational and then the 3A District Championship. They swept all events for the 3A division. Friday they competed for state honors and placed third in All-Girl Show Cheer, fourth in Sideline, and third in the Pom Division. Congratulations girls on a great season. Tim Schmidt Photo

Weiser cheerleaders competed in the 2023 Cheer State Championship on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. The Wolverines faced really tight competition and they were able to place in all three events – earning thirds in All-Girl Show Cheer, fourth in Sideline, and third in the Pom Division.
The day started off really tough for the Wolverines, because the team had the very first performance of the day with show cheer which is also the hardest of the three routines. They had less stretching time, and it can be really tough to hit the floor first.
Weiser received praise and positivity from the judges for their high energy and original choreography in their routines. Throughout the competition, however, every little detail made the difference between placing third or fourth and placing second. Timing issues in a stunt sequence, someone bumping a prop in the sideline routine, or even a few less pointed toes in the jumps, is all it can take to lose a couple points. The difference between fourth place in sideline and third place in sideline was only one point and the difference between fourth and second place was only two points.
Sugar Salem took first place in Co-Ed Show, Sideline, Pom, and dominated as the State Grand Champions, but the other teams in the top five, Snake River, Kimberly, and American Falls were all really close to equal.
Coach Nicole Ramirez shared that she was grateful to be able to walk away from state with hardware from all three events. It’s an accomplishment to qualify for state in the first place and several of the teams there did not place in any event. To be able to place in all three is something to be proud of.
