Recreation track just around the corner

Starting on May 26, 2025, the annual Weiser Recreation Department youth track program starts. We meet at 5 p.m. at the newly constructed Weiser High School track. Practice is for an hour and sometimes just a bit longer depending on how many athletes show up. 

 Fundamentals are shown and practiced on a daily basis including proper stretching and form running. Then, the fun begins as these athletes pit themselves against each other in events such as running, jumping and throwing. 

 This year, there are new long jump pits with the best sand in them and plenty of space around each pit for multiple athletes to practice the standing jump. If an athlete is one of those upper echelon kids, they may be asked to run against older kids for the competition, but only at practice.

 The week long practices end on Friday in preparation for the big meet on Saturday, May 31. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with team warm-ups beginning at 9 a.m. 

 Once again this year, the Ontario track club is bringing their athletes to try to steal our ribbons so all you local athletes, come prepared to run, jump and throw your best. 

 Head on down to the Weiser Recreation Department to sign up for this fantastic event. Coach Joyce Taylor will be there so don’t be square.
