Quinton sets school record at Lewiston meet

The Weiser High School cross country runners competed in both the Inland Empire Championships on Oct. 1 and the Crosby Invitational on Oct. 6.
The Inland Empire Championships in Lewiston was touted to be a very fast course, and this proved the case for the Wolverines. Although not all the runners we able to go to the competition, those who did were able to earn new personal records.
In the women’s race, Kylie Quinton finished in sixth place with a time of 18:24. This was not only Quinton’s PR but also faster than the school record set in 2007 by Marquita Palmer. Claire Matthews finished 25th with a time of 19:27. This was a PR for Matthews by more than a minute.  Kendall Rynearson finished with a time of 20:18. This was a season’s best for Rynearson.
In the men’s race Josh Kelley finished with a time of 17:49, a PR by nearly a full minute. Judah Parsons finished with a time of 18:56. Kale Langley ran in the junior varsity race and finished with a personal best by more than a full minute with a time of 21:30. Aaron Despain also competed in JV and finished with a time of 21:44.  This was the season’s best for Despain. Banzer Arnett finished with a PR of 23:28. Michael Shaber also set a PR of 25:43.
Coach Scott Hale shared that as far back as they were able to find records, Quinton’s time was a Weiser High School record, which is really exciting. With all of the runners setting either PRs or SRs, it was worth the trip to a great course.
The following Thursday they competed in the Crosby Invitational. For several of the runners, the faster times from Lewiston helped them improve for this race as well.
Kylie Quinton came in third with a time of 19:32.67. Claire Matthews came in sixth place with a time of 20:33. Sarah Henderson set a season record with a time of 23:30 finishing in 25th place. Hayden Samson finished with a time of 26:33. Rynearson was not able to compete in this race and the girls did not have enough runners to compete as a team.
In the men’s race, Josh Kelley finished in 16th place with a time of 18:10. Judah Parsons finished in the top 30 with a time of 18:55. Levi Huston finished with a time of 20:11. Kale Langley finished with a time of 21:33. Aaron Despain finished with a time of 22:08. The team finished ninth overall.
The Wolverines have two more races for the regular season: The Winston Tizley Invitational on Wednesday Oct 12, and the District III championships on Oct. 18.
