On Saturday, Sept. 7 at noon, there will be the first annual Duck Race to raise money for the Weiser River Animal Shelter.
Every pet needs a home but sadly not every pet gets one. That’s why Weiser River Animal Shelter started a new fundraiser.
The fundraiser is their brand-new annual duck race. The event will be at noon starting at the Gallaway Canal on West 7th Street and will end at Jenkins Creek Road.
To participate, participants will be able to purchase a rubber ducky to race across the water with first, second, and third place all getting cash prizes.
One duck will cost only $5 and if you want a better chance of winning, you can buy five ducks for $20.
All money raised from this event will go directly to the Weiser River Animal Shelter. The funds will be used for vet expenses, food and to raise money to build a new shelter.
The Weiser River Animal Shelter is the main group running the event and could always use new helpers.
If you wish to join them you can either call their number which is 208-614-1430, go to the Farmer’s Market on Thursday evenings and sign up there, or go to their website, weiseranimalshelter.com.
Speaking of the dogs at the pound, there are dogs in desperate need of a new place to call home. If you wish to adopt you can call the number, 208-414-2244.
The pound is not the greatest place for these animals but with the funding from the duck race event and future duck races, hopefully, these animals can be given a great home.
Colleen Edwards, one of the members of the Weiser River Animal Shelter, has done a lot to help run this event and hopes that this spreads the word of their service.
“The main goal is to inform the public of our purpose and to gain new members,” Edwards said.
If you wish to buy tickets for the event to help out the animals, you can buy the tickets at the Weiser Farmer’s Market, via phone, or you can also go to their website to buy tickets.
Let’s hope this event is a success and that in the future, these animals can find a new home with owners a live the happy life they deserve.
