Built in 1925 to serve students and faculty at the Intermountain Institute boarding school, Hooker Hall is reaching its 100th milestone this year, and in celebration this Saturday, May 3, the Snake River Heritage Center is kicking off a series of four separate events it will host between now and Oct. 24.
The public is invited to this weekend’s May Day Tea Party, beginning at 12 noon, with a brief introduction of the day’s events.
The program will begin with May Day Pole dance, organized by SRHC board member Gaileen White. The traditional May Day fete was a custom on the ‘Tute campus, which in those years included the crowning of a May Day Queen.
Victoria Arriero Studio students will perform four musical pieces, followed by the tea party held in the first floor Tea Room and hallway. The museum will be open for both guided and self-guided tours during the event.
There will be a small $5 charge for the tea party in order to cover the cost of the food and drinks, SRHC board member Gina Applegate said. Tickets may be purchased online at snakeriverheritagecenter.org or by visiting the museum gift shop, and the festivities will continue until 2 p.m.
“Dottie (Emert) and her crew have been busy cleaning and preparing the museum,” Applegate said. “After last year’s construction project, we are hoping for many visitors throughout this year.”
