MTE provides free WiFi at football stadium

 Free WiFi is now available at Roy Dickerson Memorial Field thanks to MTE Communications, which has donated the service free of charge to athletic staff and spectators.

 MTE is a telecommunication services company that provides internet service to area communities and has offices in Midvale and Weiser.

 The company approached the Weiser School District last month about providing service during football and baseball games in an effort to make sure people stay connected. 

 WiFi “mesh” devices were installed atop the press box at the football field and at the baseball field. The service will allow coaches to better communicate and fans to share the game with loved ones wherever they may be in the world.

 “We have donated all necessary equipment and services, so there will be no cost at all for the schools. The devices are pointed at each other, and they broadcast that wireless signal to the football and baseball fields,” explained MTE Marketing Coordinator Megan Warren who said it is the company’s goal to keep families connected to important events.

 “A lot of it is that we feel whether they are MTE customers or not, rural communities are just as deserving of streaming and having WiFi as the bigger cities,” she said. “One of our goals was for spectators to be able to share what’s going on, on the field, with people who are unable to attend the game. You know, grandmas and grandpas that live outside of town or are ill and can’t make it. That’s such a magical part of life, friends and family, and to be able to give them access to that where, right now, there is not a service to be able to do that.”

 Warren said that Weiser High School Athletic Director Bowe von Brethorst has full control of the service. He told the Signal American Monday that spectators who want to access the service can simply use the WiFi tool on their mobile device and select the “Free Weiser Football WiFi provided by MTE” connection.

 “It will be a strong, reliable, useful signal to support their needs,” Warren said. “We want to be out and about, supporting our community. We just want everyone to enjoy it.”
