Quinton sets personal best time at Dani Bates meet in Twin Falls
Recently the WHS cross country team had another meet, this time at the Dani Bates Meet in Twin Falls on Friday, Sept. 20.
So far, this season has been quite fruitful for the cross country team with them doing quite well in each meet, often placing highly in both their boys’ and girls’ competitions.
This meet was no different with the teams also doing well despite the tough competitors from all classifications they had to go against.
The varsity boys’ team placed 14th out of 24 teams overall with 394 points, and had seven runners in the 5000m heat. The top five runners for the team were Blake Quinton with a time of 16:48.58  placing eighth overall, and besting all of his previous times this season; Josh Kelley with a time of 18:52.76 placing 79th overall; Ammon Anderson with a time of 19:26.11, placing 108th overall; Alex Woods, also setting a personal record with a time of 19:29.11, placing 112nd overall; and Jorge Martinez with a time of 19:31.96 placing 114th overall. In total, there were 173 runners in the boys’ varsity race.
The varsity girls’ team placed 16th overall out of 20 teams. There were 150 girls total running and five of the runners were from WHS. Those runners were Claire Matthews who set a season record time of 20:36.06, placing eighth overall; Corianna Parsons finished with a time of 21:23.0, placing 31st overall; Kenzie Strasser with a time of 26:47.93, placing 132nd overall; Kelsey Cole with a time of 28:20.25, placing 140th overall; and Kaylee Harris with a time of 19:35.38, placing 145th overall.
The next meet will be hosted on Sept. 27-28 at Eagle Island State Park. Let’s hope the WHS cross-country team can continue to make Weiser proud and continue to prove why it is so special to be a Wolverine.
