Lots of Fiddle Week volunteer opportunities

For anyone wanting to become better acquainted with Weiser’s calling-card event, there are plenty of volunteer position openings throughout the contest site, and beyond.
Even with a number of reliable standbys who have regularly manned the contestant registration table, Fiddle Contest secretary Joya Hill says she’s looking for some good people to help in that capacity.
“They are the first to greet and help get the contestants their packets,” Hill said. “We are already at triple digits for our contestant numbers.”
It’s a great way to not only work with or make new friends, but also to meet and become familiar with fiddle contest competitors from all over the U.S., and beyond. The registration tables are open Monday through Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For anyone who likes to work with numbers and would like an inside view of the contest, tabulation might fill the bill. The volunteers might be asked to track contestant play time, and work in groups to calculate the judges scores. There are morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, Monday through Friday, and on Saturday evening.
The contest’s souvenir shop is open all week, and is always manned with local volunteers. The shop always holds newly-designed  Fiddle Contest clothing, a variety of fun items, as well as a nice offering of recordings by many of the contestants, musicians, and entertainers found in Weiser during the epic week.
The contest site’s information booth is a nice place to meet and greet contestants, their family members, and those who simply come to enjoy listening to the music. The booth is manned all day Monday through Friday, as well as on Saturday evening, with shifts available for volunteers.
Located in Slocum Hall, the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest Hall of Fame holds decades and decades of memorabilia dating back to its roots in 1952. Having volunteers on hand will give more people a chance to see the exhibits and appreciate the deep and long ties between the musicians and Weiser.
Tickets for each evening’s performances are sold at the contest site all day. Help is needed in selling the tickets, as well as taking tickets and checking badges at the door for both daytime and evening performances.
Speaking of tickets, they are also available online at the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest and Festival website, and fans will want to scoop them up early.
Those who enjoy the festival activities at Weiser City Park and would like to volunteer some time to it may contact Pepsi at 208-550-0002.
Stickerville, the popular camping area located behind and slightly north of the Snake River Heritage Center, has a list of things volunteers can help with, as well. Check those out at stickervillefiddle.org.
