Lady Wolverines take commanding victory against McCall-Donnelly

The Lady Wolverines had a busy schedule last week with four games on the road starting on Monday with a league pairing against the McCall Vandals that resulted in a commanding 11-2 victory.
The Lady Wolverines wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning.  Whitney Cordes received a free base on balls and with doubles from Hannah Swank and Tobie Noyer and a pair of errors, Cordes, H. Swank and Noyer all crossed the plate to score.
Grace Swank ripped a shot to deep left field, but the Vandals defense stranded her on third base, stopping the Wolverine surge at three runs.
Cordes went to work in the circle for the Wolverines and a ground out and a pair of strikeouts sent all three Vandal batters back to the dugout, leaving the Wolverines leading 3-0.
Senior, Kali Branstetter received a walk and freshman, Abby Wilkins recorded a single, but the Wolverines were unable to add to their lead in the top of the second inning.  Another pair of Cordes K’s and a flyout at third base held the Vandals scoreless.
Noyer ripped a groundball to the center field grass, followed by a deep shot to left field by G. Swank to score Noyer. Macy Maloney landed herself on second base from an error, advancing on a walk from Branstetter, but couldn’t wait any longer, and stole home to give the Wolverines a 6-0 lead by the end of their at-bat. The Vandals halted the shut-out in the bottom of the third, scoring their only two runs of the game.
Leading 6-2, the Wolverines continued to chip away at the struggling Vandals with a homerun from Noyer in the fourth inning, runs from Cordes and Noyer in the fifth and another run from Noyer in the seventh inning, to take the game 11-2.
Noyer led the Lady Wolverines with two hits and five runs, followed by the Swank twins, Hannah and Grace, with two hits and one run apiece.  Maloney and Wilkins had one hit and one run each and Cordes had two runs.  Cordes also pitched the whole game, allowing four hits, no walks and striking out eight batters.
Weiser vs. Payette
The Lady Wolverines traveled to the home of the Payette Pirates on Wednesday and planned for some redemption, as their previous pairing resulted in a heartbreaking 5-9 loss on their home field.
Ivy Morris ripped a shot to deep right field for a triple that she turned into a run on an error of a hit by Noyer, but only Morris was able to make it in for the run before the Pirates halted the at-bat.
Freshman, Danica Lockett went to work in the circle for the Wolverines. In the bottom of the first a single and a double resulted in a pair of runs for the Pirates following a pair of walks, but Lockett shut it down and stopped the Pirate surge with a strikeout and a groundout from Maloney to Cordes.
The Pirates added another run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Wolverines struggled to bridge the 1-3 deficit until the top of the fourth inning when Noyer managed to get on base with a hit to deep right field.  Grace Swank and Maloney also made it to base, but only Noyer crossed home before a fly out and a strikeout halted the comeback.
Unfortunately, the Pirates countered with another run in their fourth inning at-bat, leaving the Wolverines still trailing 2-4.
In the top of the fifth inning, Wilkins made it to base on balls and following a pair of stolen bases, she was batted in by Noyer.
The Wolverines held the Pirates scoreless in the bottom of the fifth with a strikeout and back-to-back ground outs at first for a three up and three outs situation, but the Wolverines continued to trail 3-4.
In the sixth and seventh innings, the Wolverines struggled to try and get the Pirate pitching handled and succumb to four strikeouts and two fly outs in eight batters. Despite a base on balls for Cordes and a single for Branstetter, the Wolverines were unable to score.
Meanwhile a difficult defensive showing in the bottom of the sixth inning, riddled with errors resulted in a pair of Pirate runs and ended the game for the Pirates 6-3.
Tobie Noyer led the Lady Wolverines with two hits and one run, followed by Morris with one hit and one run. Maloney and Branstetter each had one hit and Wilkins had one run.
Lockett pitched six innings, allowing six runs off five hits, five walks and four strikeouts.
